LG Optimus G review: Grand Slam

22 October 2012
Designed to a flagship standard and powered by the latest in handheld computing, the Optimus G cannot hope for a warm welcome from rivals but is due every bit of their respect. LG is not asking for it – it’s getting ready to earn it...

AnonD-71868, 24 Oct 2012Come on man, get real! You live in the past! And again, all... moreit seems you have not read my post carefully; lack of the update is one thing (and what you mean by: "living in the past") p920 is/was a high and phone and lg promised to update it, however they failed to do it on time, what's worse though is the fact they seem not to give a toss about the customers, there is lack on information from them and each time you ask them they say different things;

why haven't you referred to the ghost call issue? just to explain the term: calls and sms do not reach you, extremely frustrating as it is LG played a fool saying there is no such a problem (anyone interested see xda forums), To be fair, after 4 or 5 months LG released an update which seems to solve the ghost call issue, however the fact that they were denying it for so much time is contemptible. But the list of problems is longer than that ... check for yourselves.
And no I'm not LG hater, I just express my opinion based on my experience with lg products ...
You've written that people do not think for themeselves and buy products which are advertised in the media ... To some extent you're right, however many will choose samsung over lg because of what they've heard from people as you and me and what they have read on the internet and believe me LG is not well written/spoken of, and that's their own fault

Nice looking phone, good HW but, locket bootloader, and LG sw support, I have Optimus 2X. Good phone, I wouldn't change it, but LG fu*ck about customers. Still without ICS. And they don't say anything, this phone without xda would be dead.

The AT&T and Sprint version are modified by each carrier...LG isn't involved in this, it isn't the way they would have liked to do it, but we all know that carriers do whatever they want with phones. Maybe the international version will have a microsd slot, like the AT&T version. Other people don't pick on these small things, but you haters should probably go to your sammy fanpage and leave us alone.

So this E973 version is confirmed has no SD-card, just like the Nexus phone based on it? Yet the E970 for AT&T does.. and the LS970 for Sprint again does not??

And we wonder why people pan LG products when they can't even be consistent with a goddamn MEMORY CARD SLOT!

The fact that they're cheaper it's the only advantage on Samsung? Ha...you make me laugh. Did you forget about build quality, design, display, hardware? It only remains the software for LG to be better than Samsung on all areas, and this will be solved on the next Nexus launch. With this new partnership between LG and Google, LG will get the help that Samsung got until now from Google regarding updates.

          Haters gonna hate...

LG has very poor support, just to give you an example: LG P920 had ghost calls for over 4 or 5 months on android 2.3, and what LG did? they were denying most of the time that the problem existed, don't believe check xda forums; aparat from that the update was android ICS was scheduled for the second quarter of 2012 then rescheduled for the thrid one, and now we have the fourth quarter of the year and no sign of the updates whatsoever. Be realist before buying LG phone, consult the internet ;)

Mobilemaster, 24 Oct 2012It's sad that they can't sell half of what Samsung can. :P ... moreSamsung sold many phones because they had the succes with the S2, in a time when the S2 had no rival. That's why Samsung sells many phones. The people primarily buy the name, like the case of Apple. Not a single Iphone can make what an Android one does, yet people buy them in a large amount. Why is that? Because of the name. People don't know to choose for themselves, don't know to choose what's best for them, they are constantly being told what to do on TV, media, newspapers...people simpy forgot to THINK FOR THEMSELVES, and that's why they get fooled by companies like this or that, which promote even the worst phone as the best phone and people buy it big time. I sincerely prefere a good phone made by LG, which does its job and in the same time is very exclusive, unlike a Samsung.

Make a comparison between this phone and any Motorola and you will see that the Motorolas are better when it comes to battery, but that's because they have a big battery and nothing else to consume that battery, like processing power and visual effects.

Ok, let's not compare Motorolas with the Optimus G, let's compare them with Optimus 4X HD. They are still trailing behind the LG.

It will get JB because LG has a new partnership with Google by making the next Nexus phone, and this will be a good thing for all LG's phones in terms of updating.

Motorola looking better than LG? In what world? LG is known for its design and build quality, Motorola only for its battery. But the design matter is subjective, so if you like Motorola better, ok, but this doesn't mean that is true.

I mean, they copied 100%, they didn't change them a bit. How cool is your sammy then? All the popularity that it has it was made on the back of other manufacturers, they copied LG's Prada and Chocolate, the first touchscreen smartphones, and now they think that they are better than LG...people really don't know the truth behind all these companies and they buy anything these days.

Mobilemaster, 24 Oct 2012The Nokia 808 is a smart phone(a weak one, but it's still a... moreBut why do you compare it with this phone? There are very few phones that come close to this one, but not even they can match it, and you throw a rubbish phone like the 808, who is good only as a camera. Anyway, even if it has a 41 MP camera, the quality is the same as an 8 MP camera from a professional camera. When you buy a smartphone, you buy many features bundled together, you don't need a phone good only for its camera, or a phone good only for its battery...

Why do you compare 2X with Optimus G, when the OG is miles better, the O2X was a failure, but LG came on the right track with the O4X HD and the OG. If you like how Motorola looks like, and not LG, it's your problem. But the majority of people would choose an LG phone for its design, not a Motorola. And you say about the battery again...ok, it has a good battery, but doesn't even compare with the Optimus G as a whole.

And why don't you accept the reality, that this phone is the best right now, when it clearly is? You see the LG logo and you think this is rubbish, but you shouldn't act this way. Until another manufacturer launches a phone that can match this one, this is the best. Period!

AnonD-71868, 23 Oct 2012It's clearly that you don't know LG at all. Optimus 4X HD h... moreOk, sorry for saying the Optimus 4X has a non removable battery. I am not saying LG is weak, but I can't accept the Optimus G is the best phone from the world! I rather buy a Motorola Razr HD than a Optimus G, because Motorola phones have a good quality, GOOD battery, and of course good design(I like more Motorola's style). Anyway, the Galaxy S3 is older than the Optimus G, of course the Optimus has more Ram, but you know, Samsung has a phone with 2 GB of Ram. And you said LG was the first with a Dual Core. The Optimus 2X was a HUGE disappointment, how many Optimus 2X they sold??? We will see how many Optimus G will be sold. At least people are buying Samsung phones, just look at the sales of S3.
