Windows Phone 8 review: Str8 up

29 October 2012
Windows Phone 8 is officially in the race. It probably isn’t time to count the horses just yet but Team Windows seems ready to bounce – major OEMs have backed Microsoft up with flagships and mid-range options. Redmond is doing its part with what looks like one of the biggest OS overhauls this year...

Everything looks pretty good to me. But i want to know if usb on the go is supported on wp8. Cuz thats something that i found very handy and was one of the many reasons i bought the nokia n8. I miss that on my iphone. Lumia 920 seems like the perfect upgrade to my n8, the usb otg will be just the icing on the cake! Can anybody comment about otg..???

        Nokia phones >>>> Samsung phones.

If windows phones take off, it will be Nokia's market again. Hope it does well. Love the windows o.s.

A great review GSMARENA and very honest, thank you. I'm willing to give Windows 8 ago this time following your review. The new OS certainly fits my business needs better than Android & iOS so I'm looking forward to testing Windows 8 Pro, RT and Phone 8. The good thing is I don't have reinvest money buying new software and Windows 8 hopefully should integrate easier with our existing infrastructure.

Are the system fonts sizeable as I found the fonts on the Lumia 900 too small and difficult to read.

Does this mean that we no longer "NEED" zune to transfer & later on open them on WP8 devices ?
I mean what's the point in just having a usb mode just to carry the files around as if the device is just an Expensive Pen drive..

One thing that really annoys me is that the WIFI gets disconnected when the phone goes on stand by and as far as i know this is not fixed in WP8!

Can we have an upgrade later for this in say a month or two? or is it just not possible?

Coz i'd like my phone to rather use the WIFI connection at my home or in my office rather than using my data plan for all the tiles update and skype and Facebook etc.

Lumia 920 is simply the best phone coming out. Nokia' signal reception, call quality, build quality, design, PureView Camera, PureMotion HD+ display with highest pixel refresh rate and brightest screen, ClearBlack polarized layer technology for best viewing in direct sunlight out of any phone, HAAC Rich Recording with 3 high amplitude audio capture microphones, Synaptic advanced touchscreen that works with gloves, tree branches, keys, and pretty much anything, and wireless charging. Apple, Samsung, and HTC can't even match Nokia in signal reception and call quality, let alone other things I mentioned above.

--piracy of apps..you can more apps on mobile9 than on nokia store...thus developers sifted to other platforms.
...it is easy talking here but the recent times have been really tough for nokia..so they have to do something to get back.

It was a mistake for Nokia to show that they had meego and still went with WP8. Maemo was brilliant, but also abandoned. And look at what they dumped all these praise worthy OSes for?
