HTC One X+ review: The complete package

08 November 2012
There's no denying that the HTC One X was an amazingly solid smartphone. On the surface it even looked like as good a package as its main rival at the time, the Galaxy S III, and having a head-start to the market it was almost expected for it to become a huge success...

Lured by the low price and big screen I took the plunge. Now I yearn for a smaller screen due to practicality as these phone require two handed operation. I also actually enjoyed using iTunes to sun my music (I know most people hate it) but on a MacBook iTunes behaves very different to windows (it's awful on windows). Be very careful what you wish for. Android has a lot of functionality and is better on paper but as a long term iOS user you may regret it as it just doesn't feel polished for me. I understand a lot of people feel ios is outdated but why fix son etching that is not broken? It's like porche. Updated cars but the design really doesn't change

corona10, 09 Nov 2012This device has been out for 6 MONTHS in the US and its STI... moreI agree. In the states the only carrier that seems to have the One x+ is AT&T. I bought mine at Best Buy on Saturday, though I assume that it was from Best Buy's web site.
AT&T may indeed have an exclusive on the phone but your point in well taken. Given the drubbing that HTC has taken over the past couple of years if would behoove them to get the One x+ in as many places as possible. It's a good phone on paper, at least the reviews seem to say so.
Why they aren't doing that is beyond me, Maybe they don't have the funds to do so? Maybe they're good engineers but lousy marketers? Who knows? But they really can't continue like this, nor should they. The competitive nature of the market won't allow you to build a "good" or even a "great" phone combined with lousy marketing, at least not with the likes of the Samsung juggernaut that seems to have become so dominate of late.
As another illustration I visited the HTC web site to look at the One x +. I wanted to view comments as well as gallery pictures but the links just didn't work. Maybe their web master had the night off? I don't know what was going on but it doesn't serve to make a good impression on possible buyers. They really need to get their act together.

I've chosen to go with the One x+ for my next phone. I've been an iPhone user since 12/2008 and while I have been satisfied with both (3G and now a "4") I am, as any number of longtime iPhone users seem to be, underwhelmed with iPhone 5. Yes, it's well made but I think that you could say that about any number of phones these days. The "problems"? The screen is simply not big enough in my view, the phone seems almost too lite (I may feel the same about the One x + to be fair), the IOS is simply getting long in the tooth and needs a "redo", and the price is simply not justifiable in today's competitive marketplace. With regard to the last point a 64 gig iPhone 5 costs $399.00 (list) with a two year contract in the USA (I'm with AT&T, San Diego, Ca.). My HTC One x+ was less than $250.00 for same period. Ouch! That's $150.00 difference.
Now, a couple of years ago, let alone more, Apple could get away with that kind of thing, as their competitors weren't up to snuff to a great extent; indeed, when I bought my 3G I think that it is fair to say that Apple had a functional monopoly and thus could get away with it. Today, it's a different world. Phones like the One x + and the Galaxy S3, especially when combined with Jelly Bean 4.1.1 and now 4.1.2, easily match if not surpass the iPhone.
I think Apple dropped the ball with iPhone 5. Of course, they'll sell a lot of them, but I suspect that it will be mostly "repeaters" and people just jumping on the "bandwagon". Honestly, I think that if you can escape the hype for a minute and be objective the iPhone and its attendant premium just doesn't make sense today.
The handwriting is on the wall for Apple. If they allow the IOS to continue to age or they don't admit that their "bigger" screen isn't going to cut it (at least for users like me) they're going to get crushed by Android et al., much the way Windows crushed the Mac platform (I was a Mac user for twenty years by the way and now use W7).
Of course, I'm shooting my mouth off, as I don't yet have the One x + (I'll get it in about a week) in my formally nicotine stained fingers And who knows? I might want throw the thing against the nearest wall. I doubt it though.

I looked at other phones, of course, but the One's overall appeal won out. The screen, Sense 4+, the black "grippy" case, 64 gigs, Jelly Bean 4.1.1 all added up. I looked at the Optimus G by LG but found it too big for my jean's front pocket (is that a rabbit on your pocket or are you just happy to see me?). And holding it in my left hand (I'm right handed) I discovered that its corner "dug" into it, which got to be irritating (maybe that's why Apple, in part, sued Samsung based on a rounded rectangle?) The Galaxy S3 just struck me as a bit cheap. Now that may be a cheap shot on my part, because God only knows that they've sold them like crazy, but that's just how I feel about it. I'm sure that most of its owners are happy with it, God bless them. It's just that I looked for the complete package (as I conceive it) as much as possible and on paper the One x+ will (hopefully) fill the bill. Rant over. Go have some tea.

I bought the HTC One X+ two weeks ago and let me write that it was a very satisfactory purchase for me. Its super fast, the web pages loads almost immediately thanks to the quad-core processor, its build-in camera showed no lag and its LCD2 4.7" display is just crystal clear. I don't agree that not having a micro SD slot is a disadvantage as the build-in 64GB storage is more than enough for even the most demanding of users. And eventhough its priced higher than the SG3, its worth the premium due to its polycarbonate body as compared to the plastics of SG3. To sum up, a highly recommended smartphone eventhough its not been getting the just review it so deserves.

Trying to keep my frustration on point, yet again htc misses a trick by omitting fm transmitter. attaching an audio cable to the jack and then aux is prehistoric.nokia has been using fmt for years (my last nokia was n900 and that had it). so what is the problem htc????

Guys, it's all your fault that you bought a yellow piece of cheap plastic and stolen software. Next time think before you give $500+ and buy a real phone, from a real brand - Nokia, Apple, even RIM. Good luck!

The 64gb model is more expensive than the 64gb s3 (though not as rare), the the battery still doesn't beat the s3's, even though they both have 2100mAh capacity and jellybean. The ox+ looks nicer, but that's about it for pros over s3.

I own this phone, actualy traded my S3 for it ... the camera is bad
it captures low details compard to S3 Camera and the images are about 2MB each while the S3 picture files size about 3MB , you can compare them side by side and the difference will shck you !
the battery is horrible, it's impossible to keep the phone running for 24 hours straight , the only way is not using it , even whaen u're not using it it looses juice so fast

and htc sense is slowwww as hell even on a quad core phone
                                ... you don't believe me ? ok
compare it to a S3 side by side running a simple android DEFAULT live wallpaper like Phase Beam
you will notice the slow frame rate on htc one x+ , it's actualy below 20 fps though it's about 60 on galaxy s3
htc sense is full of hickups, lags and crashes even when you have not installed even one extra app ...
God ! I WANT MY MONEY BACK HTC BASTARDS !!!!!
