Google Nexus 4 vs. Samsung Galaxy S III: Fan favorites

21 December 2012
Android devices come from all walks of life, but in each generation there is a "chosen one". In 2012, it's the Nexus 4 and, as an overall package, this is probably the best Google has ever delivered. Yet, by a mean twist of fate, it has the most formidable...

"People reading this on retina displays......" lol, as in anyone these days with a modern high end phone?

im afraid Apples claim to fame there is well exhausted, instead they have a more dubious honor of offering a highly priced high end device without even a 720p resolution, let alone a 1080p one like we see competitors rolling out this year.

        I have both...S3 and N4.

I appreciate how samsung has all the video codecs I need and how the scrolling (left or right) through pages is endless. Samsung definately does have extra software to make customizing easier...especially when you first get the phone and dont wanna spend so much time downloading apps. The super amoled led is great but all amoled have some black spots that can only be seen in the dark when the screen is lite.

N4 is 2gb of ram makes life easier. The barebone jelly bean doesnt appeal to me considering I started using the S3 with the extra helpful apps and customization features. I have no black spots when I watch movies in the dark. The Lte and the fact that it comes factory unlocked to all carriers which gives me no limit to what carrier i choose. Once you dl the apps you need on the N4... its a winner...though I prefer a the extra bit of video screen I get from the S3. The 16gb is not sufficient ... if you consider all the apps you need to download to meet up to the software functionality of the S3. I'm not a fan of the non-existant expansion slot. No one wants to plug in their phone to a pc and limit themselves when you can just remove a sdcard almost all phones for data transfering.

I would say its a Tie for me... I think when the S4 comes out... that should be the real winner of the cell phone war!

Great review! Gsmarena is saying like if you want the newest android phone, go for Nexus 4. But if you want the best android phone, go for SGS 3. Whatever you choose, you're still the winner.

Nexus 4 screen size is 4.7 but bottom 1 inch is fixed for home/back button and top half inch occupied by notification. So ending up with small screen size. Where s3 has home/back button outside of the display screen.

I bought Nexus 4, used for 1 week and returned. Then Bought S3 and decided to keep s3. S3 is far better than Nexus 4. I received the Nexus 4 with crack on the four corner. Then interface is not impressive like s3. camera not impressed comp to s3. Scree display ok , not bad but no comp with AMOLED. Currently my s3 running on 4.1 JB and waiting for premium suite (tons of features like multi window). Nothing in N4. Hype for N4 is too hight but after hands on, you will discover why hype. If you want to find any real review of Nexus 4 search other than Google search like bing, yahoo...

I for one think that the S3 looks like crap. Enough with the Chinese melted toys and turned into phones.
I own a Nexus 4 now and a galaxy s2 and I can say that the galaxy s2 has always caused problem for me, including the cheap materials used on it, which have started to exfoliate after 6 months.
I don't even want to mention Touch Wiz, because it makes me puke just thinking about it.

Oh yeah, and the support. When I will be using the latest lime pie features, the S3 used will only weep and think about the 6-10 months gap until they will get the update, if ever...

I am never buying a Samsung device again. I have plenty of better alternatives.

AnonD-19294, 25 Dec 2012Nexus 4 is not available everywhere, thus it fails on the spot.It was available but not anymore because they sold Every piece they Had.. We must wait little bit more ;)... I have the Galaxy nexus and thinking not to buy the nexus 4 just because i want more battery life. The huawei ascend d2 is a phone i like ...
But i must say nexus 4 is a top phone and i love the design than the ugly Galaxy s3

nexus 4 is beaten because it isn't as complete as s3. It isn't as good because it is a midrange device (hence the price, although that can be ab issue). It is too incomplete (16 gb max, stock android, availability and pricing issues etc.) to be named high end device like s3. Or the Optimus G.

I have owned the nexus 4 for a couple of weeks now and have to say it is much smoother and more open then ios. Also iwhen i compared it to s3, the n4's interface looked much more appealing than samsungs.

The battery performance alone seals the win for the S3. It lasts 2 hours longer browsing the web, and 5 more hours watching videos.

                                On-screen vs. physical buttons:
on screen returns the best user experience,
                                physical button needs more pressure...

I have Lumia 920, iPhone 4S, Nexus 4, and five other Android phones in the past. Nexus 4 is a good phone, no doubt. It's still not as smooth as the Lumia 920 and iPhone 4S. Still buggy as any Android phone I have had in the past. It's a good price though. Proof that I have a Nexus 4.
