29 December 2012
So you got an Android smartphone for Christmas? Congrats! Now, go ahead and do the robot dance. We'll pretend we're not watching. One thing you can be certain of, no one's gonna laugh at you. A new droid is worth celebrating - but if it's your first, you may as well want to make some noise...

Just what are you thinking? It's not related to OS, it's manufacturers support/warranty policy. Of cause, you still have open OS but you won't have open device.

Open source? Not really! Rooting is voiding the warranty then I wouldn't call it a real open source OS! While unroot in some ways still can be detected.

So in summary, you'll need about 30+ apps in order to make Android a usable OS. This also explains why Android is laggy and requires super powerful hardware to work.

i wonder if those anti theft apps would work on wifi alone? prepaid is much more common here in the philippines. so if a phone is stolen and mobile data is off (so it doens't consume prepaid credits), the app can only send info to your email once the phone connects to the internet. there may be some delays in sending the info in some situations but still useful if the thief connects to the internet. but will it work if the phone is only connected to wifi and not to mobile data services?

please add "HD panorama" at camera apps section, makes all android phones have the panorama feature that iphone 5 is bragging about, and also "super video, floating pop-up" gives all android that are not galaxy s3 have the pop up play feature!!!

"Hopefully, the smartphone you just got the wraps off of is running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, or even Android 4.1/4.2 Jelly Bean, if you've been good all year."

This really shouldnt be the case any more in this day and age, when OS like iOS has shown how it can be done, and even later OS like WP8 also are able to do it.

Fix this Google, for all your users.

Joey, 30 Dec 2012if you used Samsung stock video player, those players are j... moreDivX/XviD really. I guess your preparations for New Year 2005. are going great. Every decent encoder out there uses H264 or x264 today. I really can't see how support for such obsolete codecs can bring bonus points for any phone (video player) out there.

[deleted post]it already have everything you need by its open source ! jailbreaking ios will make it feel a bit like a normal android! rooting is very good and advanced and unrooting is simple! lol!not like jails like in ios and wp8! by the way on ios to install 3rd party apps you will disable the warranty and you cannot do anything like unrooting then!
