HTC One hands-on: First look

19 February 2013
Going by sales in the past year alone, it's easy to forget that HTC still makes some of the best hardware in the smartphone game. Despite the fact that it was the first to release a smartphone with a dual-core Krait chipset, the first to launch a...

Htc One will be more than enough phone in all aspects to fit the average user needs. I will do what most people do with a phone watch a video or two a day, play a game or two a day, use some form of a social network through out the day, take pictures send pictures, you know the usual, so the specs on this phone will do me and the average Joe just fine. Gone are the days of swappable batteries and SD card slots, yes Samsung does but most don't, that's just how it is. 32gb of storage I probably won't need 20. Only thing is it doesn't look like it has wireless charging like the nexus 4 that's too bad. To all the tech savvy guys who root, unlock and install custom roms on phones and need even more than what the new HTC One offers you are a small percentage of people purchasing phones.

AnonD-252, 19 Feb 2013I really like the front facing speakers and the new camera.... moreIndeed, atlast on spec's the One's camera is better than that on the Zperia Z. One fault of Sony cameraphones is they put too much MP's in those tiny sensors and not always more MP's mean better pictures.

Sorry HTC but this is an absolute FAIL yet again from the company that was the leader in 2010 of Android based handsets.

100% fail in terms of design, HTC One (M7) is the result of the one night stand of Apple iP5 and the Black Bery z10 and both those are ugly designs.

Seriously 2300mAmp battery? With all that internal power and now 1080p LCD screen and then include 4G LTE and even DC-HSPA+ on board the battery much like the One X/XL/X+ series won't last more than 12 hours of the end user is a moderate to heavy power user. Her another FAIL.

Oversample of Mega Pixels to make Ultrapixels has been done before by Nokia and really its not that good for overall use, if HTC are using the same image chip tech from the One X series than the so be it, my LG KU990 Viewty smart will still take better pictures and just on top of that, even with all that horse power HTC still cant offer constant 30fps FULL HD video recording and more than 10Mbits but rate, just another FAIL from HTC.

One final thing, no doubt HTC will continue to lock the boot loader and continue to use S-On which again means if you want to get rid of that fugly Sense bloatware UI you will loose warranty ... Also no MicroSD option, AGAIN ANOTHER FAIL.

I urge everyone to not buy this handset to teach HTC a lesson that they need to out customers first and not what they think customers will like.

Oh yeah reports already coming through about the WIFI death grip due to the unibody design.

Yet another FAIL form a failed company.

I really like the front facing speakers and the new camera..., but I will probably not buy it because it has no sd-card slot and it will probably be very hard and very expensive to find the 64 Gb model! HTC once again make it possible for Samsung to beat this with their next, soon to be released, flagship, this time S4!
HTC One camera impress more than Xperia Z camera!

Yet another fail from HTC, good processor, decent camera, but bad battery, no on screen buttons and not even a 5'' screen or micro SD. NEXUS FTW!

sense 5 UI is an absolute treat.
One of the USP of the phone.

Although it will be ported to other phones(Android only, others can't even dream of having it) after it is launched

why 2300mAh??? They should match Motorola's 3,300... with that display, LTE and processing it will not last a day.

camera quality is excellent especially in low light.

although this is only 4MP...avg camera quality of the device is better than galaxy S3 or iphone 5.

So just don't be stupid and use the phone for anything but calling, cause you'll be out of power by half a days work.... And no way to swap the battery. No one for me ;-)

                        remember IP5.

Another HTC monster and one of candidates to replace my Samsung device if SGS4 can't deliver my expectations of a metal or glass body phone.

This is perfectly the best candidate.

That stacked camera rumor turned out to be a hoax and the HTC One offers no such sensor. All it does is offer fewer larger pixels instead of many tinier ones.

This way the sensor works better in some environments, but can't quite match the resolving power of higher-res sensor. Keep in mind thought that 13MP sensors on smartphones never deliver real 13MP detail so the difference is indeed smaller than the pixel count suggests.

people need to understand that it's practically a 12mp camera, it's like 3x 4mp cameras stacked on top of each other with every single sensor capturing specific parts of light, as for the landscapes, if you THAT much of resolution I sincerely doubt a 12-13mp smartphone can cover your needs. If it actually does what it says I bet it would rival or best the xperia z. Not getting my hopes up but time will tell. plus the xperia z is waterproof, an advantage over almost all other 2013 devices.
