      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polycarbonate

Polycarbonates received their name because they are polymers containing carbonate groups (–O–(C=O)–O–). Most polycarbonates of commercial interest are derived from rigid monomers. A balance of useful features including temperature resistance, impact resistance and optical properties position polycarbonates between commodity plastics and engineering plastics.

That is one expensive piece of plastic.....Not worth that at all as at that price the build quality should be unsurpassed and feel premium!

[deleted post]Ha ha ha! Interesting to note that the S4 did not even figure in the final, which was the Droid DNA/HTC Butterfly shoot out. The Xperia lost out to the Nokia Lumia 920 in the quarters and the HTC One knocked out the S4 in the semi finals! Does not mean a lot though as ultimately it is all about personal preference. As I say, at this level, they all do what most 99% of people want to do and do it extremely well, probably more than what most need! Marginal at this level in terms of performance...lol

I personally have opted for the Xperia Z and spoilt myself by also getting the HTC One from Phones4u and in real time use, can't spot any performance differences and actually prefer the XZ! Have had to download Nova Launcher as Blink Feed is not fo me but the phones still rocks. On balance, if I was forced to get rid of one of the two, it will be the One and I'll keep the Xperia Z but as I'm not in that position, happy to hang on to both and loving them! Boooooooooom!

TheNeighbor, 04 Apr 2013Some of these XZ buyers got it for mere superficial premium... moreDude, you sound exactly like the deluded apple fans who absolutely defended the iP no matter what which is fine for you. Have you actually used the Xperia Z? I doubt it as all your reference points seem to others opinions. I actually own the phone and have no need to defend the product it does everything I would want it to do, does so smoothly and is absolutely a joy to watch my media on and a premium phone to feel/hold. I also happen to own the HTC One which I also like a lot but I find myself going back to the Xperia Z as I enjoy both phones for very different reasons and nothing to do with water proofing! I really do not care for your opinion as I doubt you can be objective. I don't doubt the performance of the S4, when it is actually released and people canb judge based on reality, but after the build quality of the S3 cost me dear, and no, I did not drop it, Samsung is a no go for me especially at close to £600 with sub premium build quality! By the way as this is a comparison, it is not a Samsung blog so stop with the "this is samsung page rubbish"...it is not!

I really love these two great phones by heart and so far my XZ never let me down in any aspect. I really love its look, UI, Camera, screen and all the other aspects and my S3 is still a great phone but i will definitely go for S4 as well because of its great software options. To conclude, i must say these two beasts are the best seller pair of this year.

a great review. in terms of feature and specs the s4 gets the win. plus it now has that brand recognition (especially in the us) that will enable it to push massive amounts of sales. but all in all it will come down to personal preference and marketing if not the iPhone would not be one of the top selling phones world wide.
sony already has a negative stigma to their name in the states when it comes to mobile phones and they are not doing themselves any favors. Despite all this i think i will still get the Z. i have used the s,s2,s3 and want to try something else plus considering the fact that water damage is what destroyed my s1,s2, and iPhone 4 it is nice to see a premium phone that is waterproof

Anonymous, 04 Apr 2013Haha. Thank you. Some of these XZ buyers got it for mere superficial premium status. Like the Xperia S, it fell short with mid-range performing internal hardware with unreliable battery stamina on real screen time usage of only up to 4 hours. Imagine only having 1 to 2 hours of screen on a day just to get through the day:

Pocketnow quoted, "The 2,330mAh battery, we thought, would be enough to last an entire day. And it did, so long as the display wasn’t on for long. We averaged between 20 and 26 hours on battery power before needing to plug in to charge again. Screen-on times ranged from just over an hour to no more than two hours."
3G UK said,"Sony's Xperia Z battery isn't the best especially when it comes to video playback. It performs significantly worse than the iPhone 5 , Galaxy S3 and Note 3 overall."

The more delusional XZ owners are even coming up with excuses about the overheating saying it is normal, but:

Quoted by Pocketnow, "Something worth mentioning: like any smartphone, when using heavily, the Xperia Z heats up rather quickly. But a time or two during our time with the phone, it reached temperatures that were a bit uncomfortable to the touch."

Even the Verge concludes,"... the Xperia Z suffers from the unfortunate duality of being both Sony’s best phone to date and a merely average Android handset. There’s just no getting around the fact that Sony remains one step behind the competition. It stacks up a heaving spec sheet just as specs begin to matter least, it introduces an all-glass design just as others start to move away from it, and, most importantly, it fails to provide a compelling argument for purchasing it ahead of HTC, Samsung, or even LG’s alternatives."

The two problems, the spasmodic battery and extreme overheating, haven't been complained with the S IV's performance. Can anyone point them out about the S IV from a reputable reviewer site?

Sales people are paid a percentage for every Samsung device sold in South Africa and they very often downscale pictures and sound quality of other brands in order to entice the consumer.
The S4 has a far superior CPU compared to the XZ and that is about the only thing the 1 can compare between these devices, the rest is just personal preference and personally I prefer any Sony porduct over Samsung due to its superior build quality, sound and picture quality....the XZ is launched in SA with the 1st 250 customers getting the NFC Xperia speaker free on Vodacom...watch out for the beast that will be launched by June to compete with the S4!!!!!!

I don't need to read the review to know the Real winner/loser in that case.
Comparation between these two dosen't do justice here lol...

SGS IV only fairer to be compared with HTC ONE
XZ is just match for lower league.
Next flagship phone perhaps, Sony? :)

I think samsung s4 should be compared with xperiaZL rather than Z and I am sure the review will give different results. And sony is also not promoting ZL much.
