The audio quality review is misleading as it does not test output voltage. When I first bought this phone I noticed a nasty bass distortion when I was listening to "Touch" by Daft Punk at volumes above 11/15. Since Android 4.3 it's fine at 12/15 but some minor clipping occurs at 13/15... 12/15 is loud enough for in-ear monitors but headphones such as ATH-M50x can sound a bit low. HTC One X+ has less dynamic range and rolled-off treble, but it can go a higher volume without distortion.
PhoneArena tested the output voltage to be only 0.35 V which is a shame because the Droid DNA had 2.55 V and M7 and other high-end HTC phones have around 1 V.
I was considering getting the Xperia Z5 until I saw PhoneArena say its output voltage was 0.35V, and reports of low volume or hissing with IEMs...

I've had this phone for a month now and it's not bad. Battery life is above average, display's quite nice and it does everything well (I haven't bothered with the camera - I have a Nokia 808 for that). But as a phone ?
It IS a bit too big - not least due to the extra space taken above/below the display by the speakers. And with a phone THIS big, you can't put the lock-button middle and top - it's a huge stretch every time ... and really detracts from the experience. That said, the reception is exceptionally good - I get stupid bandwidth ... probably twice the speed of my HTC One X+
I'm never gunna fall in love with it - it's just not endearing enough, but you can certainly like the battery life and screensize.

the audio quality is great but only at lower volumes.
At high volumes (above 11/15) there is a distortion with bass most noticeable with in-ear headphones and earbuds. With higher impedance over-ear headphones I don't notice it at some higher volumes though.

If they are serious with the Butterfly S, they would have put in the optical stabilizer and increase the number of "ultra pixels" to 8.
Releasing this 4 months after their much hyped HTC One, as a consumer I'm very perplexed by this as it seems the company ain't serious with both the One and the Butterfly S. No amount of marketing is going to save HTC from this self-cannibalism act. Maybe 4 more months from now and we will see the HTC "Two"

I love this phone but hate this camera,I hope that htc can give up the ultra pixel 4MP Camera and make 13MP flagship phones!

It's really nice in almost every way but I don't understand why HTC insist on using that "Ultrapixel" 4mp camera. It takes very poor quality pictures and one of the worst phone cameras I have seen in many years! It ruins the entire phone.

AnonD-78488, 22 Aug 2013I thought the crippling 4MP ultrapixel cameras are limited ... moreTrue. I never really believed in having a 4mp camera phone. It will be manageable if it is a system camera.

I thought the crippling 4MP ultrapixel cameras are limited to the HTC One series? Now they've ruined the Butterfly.
