Sony Xperia Z Ultra review: Thinking big

03 September 2013
With the Xperia Z Ultra, Sony is finally turning its attention towards a market segment it has avoided so far. The market headstart of their flagship Xperia Z along with the subsequent releases in the upper midrange has set quite a serious foundation...

How about the display issues (the green lines and the blank screen) that have been bothering so many users before this? Have those been solved?

I'd pay $1000 for it ... if it only had camera flash. No matterhow great everything else sounds, I will never purchase a phone without camera flash. Period.

So true about the battery life! You can't much with the shorter screen on use. With a fixed battery, you really need to plug in during the day, or you need to limit the usage of this gorgeous looking device.

And the screen contrast is terribly low. It's designed to be outdoors with its water resistance, but not so for battery and screen contrast.

I've seen this device up close. Sony missed another opportunity to make a better device out there in terms of performance.

Shayanmetal, 04 Sep 2013on my opinion battery life is very decent specially in vide... moreThat is true although the Mega 6.3 still beats the ZU by 2.5 hours on web browsing.

When it comes to buying a device people wont look at the ZU vs the mega 6.3 They will look at the ZU vs the Note 3. Like the reviewer said, an extra mm could have been sacrificed for a 4000mah battery.

just wow Sony. thank you gsmarena team. im looking for honami and we will be waiting ur honami review

on my opinion battery life is very decent specially in video playback i really didn't expect that..only web browsing is not good enough.
i don't compare it with note 2..we should compare with galaxy mega 6.3(same screen size but HD and also a bigger battery)
then you see ZU results are decent

The ultra battery life is 5:23 hours for Web browsing and 8:45 for video. The note 2 has 8:50 for Web and 11:30 for video.

This will be a massive turn off for a lot of people.

how does it stack up against the new nexus, its closer to a tablet than it is to a phone, in real life, spec wise sure the xperia zu wins, but is it worth the extra money

Just like I feared the battery performance is not at all good enough. But endurance seems decent. The quantum dot for all its hype did not deliver in terms of efficient screen tech.
