Gal, 12 Oct 2013I love HTC, HTC's UI on Android is absoloutly the best, HTC... moreThat's true, every brand has its special focus
HTC-design focus
Samsung-big screen focus (allows better mobility)
Nokia-camera focus (Lumia phones)
Sony-durability focus (hard to break the glass)
LG and iPhones are pretty balanced, but good flagships as well.
Maybe I'm wrong in something, correct me if I am wrong.

You are right software update will surely fix any software issues but the Z1 takes some of the best shots out there! Better than S4, which everyone used to brag about, better than LG G2 and better than iP5s.....ffftt!

I'm with the majority of people here, it seems: the Xperia Z1 should be at number 2 - it's stills image quality that most people judge their phones on and the XZ1 is simply better than the Note 3 in this regard (and not far removed when it comes to video - better in low light, even).

And might I also lend my voice to those saying "where's the macro comparison?", "why is the 3x Lossless Zoom on Stills not mentioned RE the Z1" (it's brilliant) and "why is the ability to take pictures underwater or Social Live or AR effects not pluses on the "Features" side for the Z1?"

advice, 12 Oct 2013when using the flash the note3 gives better photos than the... moreThis is entirely relative. The Z1 was being used in Superior Auto; anyone who owns one knows that this is a mistake. SA drives up the ISO too high unless it recognises the scene as a night scene, which it wouldn't in an indoor situation.

If you place the device on night mode or, even better, handheld twilight, it would wipe the floor with the Note 3 and every other non-nokia phone on test here. I've taken some stunning, noise-free, high detail night time and interior pictures with mine.

Nokia have all key to win. I love Microsoft OS and Nokia job. Y never bay a Samsung because very low signal and very bad materials and most problem it's the Samsung resistance.

I do not think that it is fair contest against the lumia 1020 since this is more of a camera than a phone, it's what it was made for, as for the other phones they weren't made to be the best shooters, they didn't focus on the camera as the lumia did, it would have been fair if you would have chose a lumia with a normal camera, when the 1020 was created the camera was it's main focus, this does not apply to the sony iphone note and the others, given the fact that you chose the lumia 1020 you could've also chose a samsung camera, a sony camera and lg camera

It doesn't make sense that the review is based on the cameras capabilities. I personally would never buy a smart phone just for its cameras. There are many features much more important than the camera. If i really need a powerful camera why wouldn't buy a professional camera!
I am much more concerned about the performance of the smartphone and the battery consumption. I believe Those two factors could make my phone a reliable one among the day.

I highly recommend the gsmarena to provide reviews based on the tested performance of the smarphone.

Sure it depends on everybody needs.
This review guides everyone for the suitable camera phone for his needs. I rarely take photos with flash i prefer natural lighting conditions specially at night so went for the htc one for better low light perfirmance other like zooming and cropping will take the z1 and lumia and so on....

You're right but that is not possible anymore.
Microsoft acquired Nokia, so forget about that.
Nokia with Android would be perfect but it will never happen. Unfortunately

The camera is far from its only strength. Awesome build quality unmatched (much more resistant than any other phone). Free offline maps with voice guided navigation. Built in office, xbox music that allows unlimited downloads for 10 usd a month, etc. Nothing can touch it.

Did you just put the words "average sized" and "Xperia Z1" in the same sentence? I love the Z1 but frankly speaking its a very unnecessarily large phone for its screen size. The G2 has 5.2" screen and is smaller than the Z1 .
In 2010, 3.5" was average sized, In 2012 4" became average sized, so in 2013 5" became average sized? whoa that escalated quickly...

GSMArena is my favorite site for mobile reviews. That's why my expectations are probably higher. It would've been nicer if this review was more indepth..like testing the quality of macro shots, night time shots, lens flare, night time videos etc. Having said that, this review was pretty good.

Well, let's make it simple. Premium build, average sized, excellent camera, good OS. Well, there's only one choice. And that's Sony. As much as I reeeeaaaalllly love the Note 3 due to its features (but not the size), Sony wins as the best smartphone of the moment.
