Samsung agrees to acquire Viv Labs, a startup launched by Siri creators

Himanshu, 06 October 2016

In an important development, Samsung has agreed to acquire Viv Labs, a startup launched by a group of three people who had helped create voice-controlled personal assistant Siri that in turn was acquired by Apple in 2010.

The startup came into existence in 2012, and the team has since been working on Viv, which is said to be a more powerful version of Siri.

The acquisition news was also confirmed by Viv Labs' co-founder and CEO Dag Kittlaus in a post. "Samsung will drastically accelerate our vision," he said. "For us, the glaringly obvious advantage Samsung brings to our vision is scale."

While the financial details of the deal aren't yet known, Kittlaus made it clear that post-acquisition, Viv will operate as an independent subsidiary of the South Korean tech giant.
