Samsung announces I5800 Galaxy 3, shows off other droids too

15 June, 2010

Samsung brought the whole Galactic Federation to CommunicAsia - they showed off four Galaxy phones, which of course run Android. Okay, we've seen three of them before but there's a new one and we get more info on some old acquaintances.

The new comer is the Samsung I5800 Galaxy 3. We have already heard rumors that it's headed to the UK under the petname Samsung I5801 Galaxy Apollo. It runs Android 2.1 with Samsung's TouchWiz 3.0 on top.

This means that the Samsung I5800 Galaxy 3 packs the Social Hub app, which handles all sorts of messages from one central place not to mention help you upload and view photos on various photo sharing sites.

The screen on the Samsung I5800 Galaxy 3 is a 3.2" TFT touchscreen with WQVGA (240 x 400 pixels) resolution. We believe that resolution is a first for Android. Galaxy 3 has a 3MP autofocus camera on the back and a card slot for microSD cards up to 32GB (a 1GB card comes in the box). With DivX/XviD support and DNSe audio technology, there will be plenty of movies and music to put on the card.

The communication skills of the Galaxy 3 are impressive for a mid-ranger - quad-band GSM/EDGE, 3G with 3.6Mbps HSDPA, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0 and A-GPS.

The Samsung I5800 Galaxy 3 will launch in July with availability expanding to Europe and Asia.

Samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy 5 (aka Corby Smartphone) and Galaxy Beam were at the party too

Samsung, of course, also showed off the king of the Galaxy line - the Samsung I9000 Galaxy S. They also showcased Samsung Galaxy 5 too, which we already know as the Samsung I5500 Corby Smartphone.

We also got to hear more details on the Samsung I8520 Galaxy Beam. It used to go by just 'Beam' when we saw it first at this year's MWC. To refresh your memory, the Galaxy Beam runs Android, packs a mobile projector along with a 3.7" SuperAMOLED WVGA touchscreen and an 8MP camera. It's launching in Singapore right now, but Samsung doesn't say when we can expect it in other markets.
