hai. i have purchased this b5310 samsung corby mainly for getting my office exchange server mails, contacts, task ans calneder . but for past three days me and my it team is trying to do that but in vain. any one can please help out. phone calls made to the helpline of samsung are all waste asthey say we will get back to yiou through the technical department bu they didnt call. my mobile number is 9818111478

Let’s start with the speaker and then move to the 11 point :D
The phone is asking “Speaker on? Yes/No” to make sure that you really want to turn speaker on cause most people may press on speaker accidently and turn the speaker in the worst moments and I’m one of them :D and it happened to me millions times before and believe me I regret it every time :D:D:D:D
Now the 11 point:
1.Wifi problem… yes you are absolutely right the mobile should not override user’s preferences but did you do what I told you to do… try this again: press on the sidebar that contains the widgets and then press on widget settings… then choose setting (the one that’s next to save).. then choose network setting… the choose off… this what will make the wifi will not be activated alone no matter what… just try it and if it didn’t work then am really sorry to tell you but there is something wrong with your unit….
2.The battery Low… the phone still uses the battery and drain it down even if you don’t your phone even for a single call… so if just won’t last more than 2 hours in my opinion… and making the alert work for at least 9 hours.. just forget this idea… the company won’t think of that cause they will never think that you may go to work with a phone that says battery low… take the charger with you to work…
3.Well you can customize the applicationss or games to make it work on CorbyPro buy doing the following steps:
Open the jar file with WinZip (not winrar). Open the meta inf folder and open the meta inf file and then paste this at the bottom:

X-Pax-TextInput-Hidden: true
MIDlet-Touch-Support: TRUE
MIDlet-ScreenMode: ROTATE
Note: I didn't try to modify the jar file by myself yet but if you did it...
4.You said that you use unlimited GPRS then why don’t you just simply use it for widgets, browser, etc., in all sections?
5.I’ll tell you about an application for the barcode that doesn’t use the camera… it’s called BarCoder... you will find it in getjar… all you do is open the application, the write number that’s under the black bars in the bar code and then press # and it will tell you the Country of barcode. Press # again, you will see Check Sum Verification Result. Press # again, and you will see Code of manufacturer and Code of item.
6.Now you are right… if the user presses the side small button to lock the keypad[1] and presses it again to turn the screen OFF[2]), the smart-unlock is not working... but it works in the initial lock mode (I mean in [1] not in [2]). But still it’s the same idea that I was talking about in laptop you move the mouse… here you have to press the side small button lightly if you want to write a certain letter on the screen to open a certain option or press and hold to unlock the phone… the phone have to be lighted to write any letter on the screen
7.They simply doesn’t give you any warning… and believe me… almost 99% doesn’t use the ActiveSync
8.Most welcome :)

May I tell you something but please don’t misunderstand me… you want all the features in your phone… there is no phone that have all the feature... no phone is perfect... so try to love your phone and look at all the good feature that it got instead of looking for the missing features… look at the full side of the glass... please don't misunderstand me or be angry :):):)

the messages can appear as threaded messages or can appear as normal in box messages... you have both options in CorbyPro... but the threaded messages in CrobyPro is called or found under Converstaions inside the messages

Anonymous, 09 Aug 2010is it true that it rejects almost all apps and games?No it's not true... but you have to download the application or the gam e via wifi or gps but it you want to install it from you computer... you need to do a little trick...
do the followig steps:
1.go to My computers
2.click on tools on top of the window
3.Goto Folder options and go on the view tab. Now scroll down to hide extensions for known file types and make sure its UNCHECKED. (This will show all extensions like .html .exe .rar etc after name of file.)
4.now right click anywhere >>new >>text document.
now copy paste this in the newly created document: install ***.jar
where the *** is replace with name of the game or applicaton (to get correct name right click on ***.jar file and copy the title)
eg: for installing opera mini my code will look like this: install opera.jar
where opera.jar is the name of app i want to install
now save the text document and save it as anything.html
Now tranfer this .html file along with .jar to your phone via USB or bluetooh
now press on the application or game and it will be installed.
that's what i do :)

well i have been using CorbyPro for a month and 18 days now.. I'm a heavy user... and the phones falls a lot from me and till now it works like i bought it yesterday... so don't worry about the usage whether it long or tough...
about using the touchscreen i believe that this phone is made to be used with fingers cause if it's better to use the pen.. then you will see a pen in the CorbyPro set.. and let me tell you that i have already tried to use CorbyPro with the pen cause i have hard, long nails and i was afraid to scratch the screen and it didn't respond well as it responds with my finger... and the screen is strong enough and it doesn't get scratched easily cause CorbyPro fall on it's face (the screen) and it didn't even get a scratch....
about the motion sensor games and normal games... i have already installed some of the motion sensor games and till now... none of them works but I'll keep searching and with normal games works well but they are not fun because you use a little virtual keys in the bottom of the screen and you can not be played in landscape mode.. so the only way to make them work as touch screen games and in landscape mode is to modify the jar file... by doing the following steps:

you didn't reply on me... it looks like you are busy :)... so do the next steps and you will be able to use Corby pro as modem...
1. uninstall Kies if you have already installed it
2. install dontnetfx35-vista_x86, given in cd no.2 that came with the mobile set (i have windows vista)
3. now install Kies given in cd no.1 but you HAVE (MUST) select custom settings, cause default settings doesn't have the internet option
4.restart your pc/laptop
5.connet your phone to USB,open Kies,right most down corner of the home page of Kies hav option for internet called Tethering
6. select it and follow instructions like connection name and Country
7. now connect your Corby Pro as modem
and please tell me if it didn't work for you :)

CorbyPro can not record a call... so the only way to do that is to download a call recorder application... there is some sites that you can find the recorder, dictionary and any other application, game and ringtones you desire...
just google Java applications for mobile... but the sites i use are:

cell11
Note: all the sites are dot com in the end

1. I used WiFi, done with it, I closed ALL the apps that are using the WiFi, including Widgets and turned OFF my WiFi... wait for half-an-hour, and it turns ON again (without any confirmation)...
BOTTOMLINE: Mobile should NOT override user's preferences.
2. Since the low-battery alarm triggered, I didn't use my phone even for a single call, but even after that it turned off almost when I need it. The phone's alert system (for low battery) should be such a way that it gives the alert at least 9 hours ago (assuming we will be in office for 9 hours total). Don't you think this adds convenience to the user if he desperately needs that phone for an evening call?
3. Agreed. But even touch applications I download specifically for CorbyPRO (mostly from getjar) are not the ones looking like the built-in GAMES (which are getting displayed fullscreen). But at least you should've provided an inbuilt facility of customizing the apps to CorbyPRO (I mean configuring the MANIFEST file by ourself in the phone).
4. Indoor I use WiFi, and just 30 meters away I need to switch to GPRS, so are you suggesting me to switch my widgets, browser, etc., in all sections, every time I go in and out?
5. Agreed. The only FULLY compatible app I downloaded for CorbyPRO is i-nigma, barcode scanner, and its not working without autofocus. :-(

7. I got you. But due to curiosity I just activated ActiveSync and sadly I lost all my contacts... and I wasted around half-a-day to get them back by sending mails to everybody asking their mobile numbers... Mobile should at least give a warning that it would override the existing contacts...

9. Auto WiFi turn-off is available in some phones. When you can provide timed turn-off for Bluetooth, is this not possible? (I mean if the user didn't use browser or any app for X minutes, turn WiFi OFF?)

I didn't say about touch.. very good.. This is my first touchscreen mobile and sliding mobile too....
Samsung wave have better touch..as it contains capacitive..I experienced in mobile shop too.. this one contains resistive..
Sister Jane how long you are using this mobile.....as I am afraid of long usage... Whether I need to use with touch pen or by fingers..which makes touch screen longer life...
Anybody installed motion sensor games and normal games.. if worked tell me the name of the games... please....

the worst thing you can do is to compare a brand with another brand... i mean you can't compare samsung, Sony Ericsson and nokia with each other cause each brand have her unique software's and features and so one... but you can compare between phone models in the same brand :)... and i think you should go for Corby Pro cause it's a java phone so it will not be effected by any type of viruses

Sister Jane you are doing a great job here.. Thanks for your comments and answers..
After a year of searching for different mobiles finally I bought this mobile and now a week gone... Excellent mobile from samsung....
Apart from Features first of all this is a mobile phone. so as a phone it works perfectly..no voice issues.. I am from India and using Airtel.. Before buying this I used nokia 6600 which is also excellent one used 3 years.. when using nokia signal indicator shows 4 bar.. but in this samsung it shows only 2 bars.. from this I could say Samsung need to concentrate on signal reception..
wifi...worked very well for me..youtube works perfect enough and could stream videos too....
I will review about 3g after some weeks... when compared to MONTE I think this will work faster as it contains 7.2 mbps....
Battery: Excellent battery performance..lasted me for 2.5 days(1 hour music, half an hour browing, min phone calls, scrolling through menus viewing pictures, etc..when boring ...)at first lasted only 1.5 days.. so what everybody needs to know is as sister JANE reviewed you shold not charge between 50% used..for new ones...It need to be fully charged then fully dropped for some cycles....
Note: I reduced the brightness fully, after using wifi, bluetooth I swithed off.
Display: In full Brigtness looks beautifull..when compare to Monte as it contains 16Million colours really it wins...
Qwerty slideout keypad.. it looks sexier and works well for me..in crowd everybody around you looks at this what you are doing.....
Music player... I could say If you use good head phones really rocks..easily replaceable for dedicated mp3 player..as JANE reviewed too...
Camera: For a 3 megapixes it done a great job in day light conditions easily comparable to sony K800i(My sister got K800i) even with fixed focus...
I though there is macro mode..but not present..
Video recording: In daylight it looks good.. I wish same corby pro with VGA @ 30 fps but now only QVGA @ 15 fps..
I don't know about email exchange...
GAmes: every thing is trial... I couldn't find still motion sensor games(still trying).. I googled and installed nearly 10 to 15 games only 3 or 4 worked.
Ram not enough...
Thats all finally..I felt that when this contains some higher ram and processor..I am fully satisfied.. I could say..80% satisfied..I advice if you are a rich you can look for samsung wave because it weights less also I looked and worked in the store side by side..I got 98% satisfaction if I bought samsung wave.. but I returned buying this leaving heart on samsugn wave because can't spend that much amount..
