I got the samsung d840 a few days ago after upgrading from a samsung d600..I am soooo disappointed. The handset itself looks great but everything else that could go wrong with it has!
Firstly it chooses when to make a sound when it rings. Sometimes you hear it sometimes the screen just lights up! this is nothing to with the settings as ive checked and checked again. I initially charged the phone for 24 hours but after I had made a 20 minute call the battery dropped to one bar!! The battery is terrible and does not give you any warning that it is going to switch off!! The charging point on the phone is fiddly and not very well designed. Also the sound through the phone when on a call is tinny and echoing!! Maybe i got a dodgey handset i dont know. Fortunately all these things happened within my 14 day exchange so im going to exchange it but I think its put me off samsung for now! Nevermind..

    Justin:

You can actually search through songs. Just create a playlist that includes all your downloaded songs or whichever ones you like and while in the music player, press the "Up" button and a list of the songs will appear for you to choose from.

    Lucie:

Yep, this phone definitely doesn't have wallpapers unlike the D900, but you can change the skin. Either black or white.. Go to Display Settings then Skin...

I got the silver one (T-mobile T629) in December. The phone overall is great. I'm always using it. Here are some pros and cons...

          Pros
          good looking
strong - i drop it all the time and still don't have any dents on it
          awesome reception
          a bunch of features
          big crisp display
          the voice recognition is amazing
the phone stays clean.- my motorola got all nasty after using it. this phone looks exactly the way it did when i bought it
tons of space for contacts and calendar notes.
views regular html - that's a big feature that i didn't respect until i had the phone for a little while.
          Micro SD!!!!!!!!!
-i might put a whole movie on the phone...

          Cons
-sometimes it randomly resets - i was cooking a pizza and i had the timer going on it, then it reset and the timer went away. Anyone up for some extra crispy pizza.
-It cant handle java files above 190kb
so i have to give up some fun games.
-The music player is loud in a quiet room but when there's a conversation going on forget it, its not worth waisting the battery. sometimes i dont hear it ringing in my pocket.
-The menu is not spread out correctly. i find myself using only two of the icons most of the time.
-The battery life sux if u use it but all phones have that problem.
-O yea i remember when i first got it it was hard to slide. eventually i got used to it.
-You can't search through videos or songs, you can only skip play pause and stop

it looks like more cons then pros but im being real picky. the phone is awesome and quite addicting.

I haven't encountered anyone with that problem yet so I'm just guessing here...

Try checking your Settings. Incoming Call then Alert Type. Perhaps it's set at either Vibration only or Vibration then Melody that's why you don't hear it...?

Also, check the format of the song. I think it will only play songs in MP3 format, although I don't think you can actually load songs that aren't in MP3 format into the phone. I haven't tried loading an MP4 format or any other yet so I wouldn't exactly know.

I have change my ringtone to a song . But after that, my phone doesn't ring when I got phone call. When I return it to default ringtone, it still works. The MP3 I set as ringtone can be played by D840 if I use music player. Any one can help please?

                Terri:

The D840 does have the facility for "Vivid Messaging" but it doesn't have the theme feature...

                Ness:

Unfortunately, you can't set MP3s as your message tone. You can only use those that have been pre-set in the phone. MP3s can only be used as ring tones.

I have had this phone for two weeks now and coming from a strictly Nokia background I have been real surprised. I love it. All I ever want in a phone is a camera to use in those spontaneous moments, a phone that looks great and the ability to have great ring and message tones. The only downside that I have yet to conquer is that once I have downloaded a message tone from the web I can't actually work out how to set it as a message tone as it has automatically stored in my music files as an mp3. Any one out there know the answer?

                    Hello,

Can anybody tell me whether this phone has a "Theme" feature for a wallpaper and also does the phone have the facility for "Vivid Messaging" as well.

I have the D900 which has both these facilities but a friend of mine is getting this phone and is wondering if these features are in the phone.

                    Thanks x x

The D840 is a nice phone but just some little thing
they should of done to make it much Better why only 1.2 Bluetooth the D900 has v2.0 and why only 2 and not 3 MP the D900 has it all but the D840 has the looks they are only little thing and the D840 is newer

I bought the Silver D840 recently and I love it. The functions aren't so bad. The only down side is the message tones. We can't use Mp3. There are only a few tones for messages.

                        The D840 is worth buying.

I recently had an upgrade to this samsung D840, and I am well happy with it + the added bonus is that it is lightweight and very easy to use, mine is in Silver & I absolutley love it. I had the Samsung Girlie phone before Samsung E530 in lavender Pink, I love samsung phones, never had a problem with them!!!

I purchased the samsung D840 in silver just recently. It was a toss up between the samsung and the LG shine. Im so glad i chose the samsung as relatives have bought the shine and some have already been returned. I love my new phone ! Features are great .. good memory plus u can add in a memory card to make it even better. Camera is reallyyy good and the phone itself is good looking! The alarm goes off when the phone is off which is goopd and you can put a lock on messages etc which i like. Really pleased !!

                                  Unfortunately, yes it does.

There are only 3 Alert Types you can choose from:

                                  1. Melody (makes the phone ring only)
                                  2. Vibration (makes the phone vibrate only)
                                  3. Vibration then Melody (makes the phone vibrate first, then plays whatever ring tone is assigned)

Ive never had a samsung, but upon research have found that numerous samsungs does not have the ability to ring and vibrate similtaenously?
This seems somewhat odd, as most fones have had this function ever since vibration came out!!

Does the D840 suffer from the same problem?

                                        Julia:

You can buy the USB cable I guess from any cellphone accessory shop... Although for some, the phone comes together with the cable already.

As for the software (Samsung PC Studio), you just download it at the Samsung website:
