the samsung d840 is a bit like a women, slides into shape when you want it to, you turn turn it to silent, very thin just like my wife (i wish), looks attractive just like me, and you can turn it on very easily.

Hi you with the white screen your phone needs a new flexi ribbon fitted on it this happens to alot of samsung mobiles the flexi ribbons come lose easily on Samsung Mobiles thats why the D500 an E800 phones might have looked good but alot of people ended up with the white screens on these mobiles very regular, see if you can take it back or get a new ribbon fitted

I am thinking about swapping an LG Shine that I purchased this weekend for the 840 (Shine is very nice to look at but some of the features are dissapointing).

Can anyone confirm if the 840 has voice dialling?

If you are listening to music, and answer a call, will the phone automatically restart music aferwards?

              What is camre quality like?

              Thanks

              Adam

Response For Nick, The handset does come in silver and is very nice. its similar to the LG Shine but alot better features wise. but also the same as the D900 which has a 3mega pixel camara, so in a sense you are down grading camara wise, which is a shame. so go for the D900.

Very well made phone. Similar to the d900, but not plastic feeling. Also the screen looks like its not gonna smash as easy. My collegues boyfriend just got one from us (CPW) and likes it.

Can anyone confirm that this phone is also available in silver? Carphone says yes, but i cant find a silver model on the web.

im thinking about getting this over the D900 on the basis that it comes in silver. So many people have a D900 i hate having a phone that half my lecture hall has.

This phone is basically an E900 in a thinner body with real keys instead of touch sensitive stupidness! ;-)

Only thing we can find different is that it has A2DP which is nice.

                            fr:

This phone is almost the same size as the D900 but a lot thinner. It's heavier too.

The material of the D900 is different which makes it lighter and have a bit of a plastic feel...

is this fone smaller than the d900? becuase the 69900 is too big for my liking.

I’ve had this phone for a month now and I can say that I REALLY LOVE IT! After getting used to it, it actually is a very cool and useful phone! However, coming from a Nokia phone, (this is actually my first Samsung phone, everything else used to be from Nokia), I still have a few concerns. The first 5 problems, I still wish this phone didn’t have and rest, well, I’ve learned to live with them…

1.When charging, the light is always on.

2.The battery life is VERY short especially when making calls, and using the MP3 player.

3.It doesn’t allow you to choose between the Phone Memory and SIM Memory when viewing your phonebook unlike in Nokia phones. It simply opens both at the same time so if you store a number both in the Phone and SIM memory, 2 entries will appear.

4.When texting and you’re in the “Abc” mode (not “abc,” “123,” or dictionary modes), after putting ANY punctuation mark, the letters automatically become capital.

5.Allows you to store ONLY 1 number for each category: mobile, home, office, and fax. Nokia phones let you store more than 1 then you can just set a default number.

6.MP3s can only be set to call alerts and not to message alerts and the alarm clock.

7.When sending SMS, it still asks you whether you want to save the message or not. It doesn’t automatically save the message in the SENT folder.

8.There are no special characters for texting… I believe those were Chinese characters that they took off.

9.The Shortcut Menu is limited. Not all the features / applications of the phone can be placed in the shortcut menu. For example, you can’t put the Memo application in the Shortcut Menu.

10.When setting the alarm, it doesn’t say anymore how many minutes or hours are left before the set time (doesn’t seem very important but it was something I really liked from Nokia).

11.Pictures that are set as wallpapers should be taken from the phone’s camera for it to be applied to the entire screen. Otherwise, if the picture was only sent to you or downloaded and you used it as wallpaper, only half of the screen will be filled.

12.The SLIGHTEST nudge will cause the picture to be blurry when taking photos especially at night and even with the flash.

13.The camera of the D840 is not attached to the portion that you slide up which makes it exposed all the time and can therefore get scratched when you place it on a table or any rough surface. Unlike the D900, the camera is attached to the sliding portion so when you slide it back down, the camera gets hidden and is not vulnerable to scratches.

14.There are no Profiles (Silent, Discreet, Loud, My Style, etc.) which you can adjust / edit accordingly.

                                  Raul:

Well, there are only a few things you can do to actually make things better, so I suggest you check out your camcorder settings...

Set the Recording Mode to Normal.

Size, Quality, and Viewfinder settings are up to you but i have mine on 320x240, Normal, and Full Screen View respectively, and the video works fine.

And your Audio Record option i guess should be set at AMR and not Off.

With regard to the caller not being able to hear you, either that's a network problem or a phone defect... Not too sure about it.

About the microphone, or perhaps you mean switching on the speakerphone...? When making or recieving a call, just wait for a small logo of a phone to appear at the bottom of the screen and just click the button with the "i" on it.

When using the voice recorder, no need to activate anything... Simply press the record button and you're good to go.

The microphone doesn't need to be activated or anything...
