Anonymous, 26 May 2008How Can i install java applications on D840? When i copy ja... moreFor my D840 (and U600)
1. Transfer the .jad and .jar files to the 'Other Files' folder on the phone.
You can transfer the files from Samsung PC Studio's 'Phone Explorer', Windows Bluetooth File Transfer or just transfer it straight to the memory card and move it over to 'Other Files' from the phone's menu.
Create the .jad file with 'Jad Maker' program included.
2. Exit all menus and type in this code: *#9998*4678255#. (*#JAVA*INSTALL#)
You should now get an 'Activated' message. Java install is enabled.
3. Go to the 'Other Files' folder and select the .jad file (should be 1kb).
Press 'Options' (left touch key) and you should get a 'Do you want to install' question.
Press 'Yes' to install.
4. To deactivate the Java install, simply type the same code again.
You should now get a 'Deactivated' message.
Apparently the E900 is similar except the code to install is *#9998*5282# -> install MIDlet password: 235282
plenty of more comprehensive install guides on the net.
cheers

EDIT:
On my D840 it was *#9998*52824678255#.
(*#9998*JAVAINSTALL#)
and the U600 it was *#9998*4678255#
(*#9998*INSTALL#)

Battery life is really short which I observed almost a year. I thought it is okay during the first battery cycles so I didnt complain about it. It wont last 48 hours until it became shorter and shorter, and I am not even a heavy phone user and lately the phone will restart over and over again automatically while charging so you cant use it. Last day, I finally dragged myself to bring the phone to the center and until today they are still observing it. I know they will just return it to me without fixing it or even replacing the battery.
I am all okay with the functionalities of the phone except for the battery life.

Thanks to the crappy reliability of the Samsung range, I now have to spend £300 on a phone for her. At least Samsung won't be getting hold of my cash!

I bought the D840 for my girlfriend about this time last year. Everything was fine, she loved the look and the ease of use.
All of a sudden last week it started going wrong. First, her screen got divided in half. The top half went all white and the bottom half was normal. She switched it off and then back on again. It seemed to have done the trick.
Then a couple of hours later, while we were on the phone it cut off. The phone went dead. She tried switching it back on but all she got was a white screen. She took the battery out, the SIM card and the memory card, giving them a good wipe and leaving them out for a bit - NOTHING!
I would've asked for advice on how to resolve this problem but it looks like a manufacturer defect and also past its one year warranty.
I never go for the slim look of a phone. I go for praticallity and the sheer brilliance, without messing up. My advice for anyone who wants a reliable phone is pick up an SE. They are always moving forward without compromising anything.

to be honest this phone is pretty useless.
i have had a problem with the screen going white and flashing, as well as not being able to use the directional buttons.
after sending it away, had to wait forever for the bunch of useless people to send it back. when i got it, lost all my photos etc as well. and now it has just done the same thing again...

I bought D840 in Nov'07, within 2 months the screen was all white which I feel is common compliant because when I visited gallery there were two more people who had same complaint & though its expensive you cant change message tone also. I am not at all happy with Samsung.

I bought this phone 3 months ago. Like many others, I fell for the design of the phone. Within 3 months the phone had problem picking up signals!. The problem was not sorted out with the customer care people. I am really regretting buying this phone.

Hi Friends,
I own a black D840 and was quite happy with it until few days ago when I tried to change keypad's tone from "silent" to some other tone on trial basis. But when I tried to put the keypad tone back on silent, I found out the option saying "keypad Tone" was not highlighted anymore!!! I've tried whatever I could but couldn't manage to highlight that option. I'll really appreciate if someone could send me an email on my address "mypanther7@yahoo.com" as it'll be easier for me. Thanks in advance,
Shahnawaz Khan.

This phone is expensive only for its looks not features.
you can't change the message tone , Theme (only two default ones) , cant background the smp3 player.
sound is ok and battery life average.

BE VERY CAUTIOUS WHEN CONSIDERING BUYING THIS PHONE. I did a lot of research and was initally very happy when I bought this phone. However, it has a generic fault where the internal slider cable fails regularly causing the screen to white-out. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN 9 MONTHS!!! I purchased mine through a parallel importer in New Zealand and received terrible service from Samsung NZ due to this fact. Great phone just make sure you get a 12 month warranty and an additional 6 month warranty everytime it gets repaired (which may be often). Sorry Samsung, but your appaling service means i'll go somewhere else for my future mobile phone purchases. C Kelly
