ilia:
On this unit -no matter where in the world you are- , a SIM can make calls only when set as primary (only one SIM can be set as primary)and this process will require the handset to restart. However if you are in North America (ie: USA) then you will not be able to use the 2nd SIM at all, because SIM2 function in this Samsung only supports Dual band, whereas you need at least a Tri band handset to work in the USA/ North America. I believe Samsung engineers were unable to fit two Triband antennas in this unit without making it bigger -the unit is big enough alreeady- because Triband antennas are usually bigger than dualband antennas. I bought this unit from hi-mobile and used it for few days before passing it to a family member who happens to be less demanding in two SIMs mobile communication

Do you use it in North America? But can I receive a call to the second SIM? Or I need to restart it to get a call too?

    >I have a DuoS and the phone needs to be >restarted every time I want to call from >the 2nd SIM card. This phone is a Dual >Standby SIM and not a Dual Active SIM and >therefore it's only good if you rarely use >the 2nd SIM.

I have a DuoS and the phone needs to be restarted every time I want to call from the 2nd SIM card. This phone is a Dual Standby SIM and not a Dual Active SIM and therefore it's only good if you rarely use the 2nd SIM.
If you are looking for a Dual SIM active handset then try http://www.gsmarena.com/wnd_wind_duo_2200-2166.php

        On the product page:
Master SIM: Tri-band with full phone functions
Slave SIM: Dual-band with call & SMS capability only

Can I receice calls to the second SIM on 1900Mhz band (US/Canada). Did someone use it in North America? Please help. I don't want to waste money, pretty expensive here.

Please beware that there are 2 different models Samsung D880 (no DuoS logo above the screen) and Samsung D880 DuoS (there is DuoS logo above the screen). Both sim cards do not work at the same time and the sims have to be switched in Samsung D880. However, both sims do work at the same time in the DuoS model without switching. The DuoS model is made for the Russian market and has Russian alphabet on the keys.

Hi all gsmarena friends; Samsung D880 is really disapointing to me i bought it yesterday from a samsung dealer in my country in PKR 23000, and sold it today at PKR 15000. As a mobile its good but as a double sim mobile its get zero marks from me; Reason is that "two sim mobile means a mobile which receive and send calls from both sims at same time" but this one can call from one sim at once if u want to call from second sim u have to restart the phone, then secondry sim become first. Every time u call from second sim u have to repeat the whole process. This mobile can only take or receive call at both sims at one time but when u want to dial acall from second sim u have to restart it and it take 35-40 seconds.

It is not true that you can't use both sim, of course you can use both but you have to look at the Samsung manul, how to use it.

two sim card works at the same time, you can received calls while the other is on hold, you will also knew where your caller is calling, you can also switch off the other sim card if you don't want to use it without taking out from the phone itself.,you can also select what sim card you want to call.., as well as sms message. it's a very good phone. I rated it 4 star..

hello everybody! i'm from the philippines and would like to comment on the dual sim issue of the d880. i think samsung has let us down this time with this particular model since it isn't really a dual sim phone. u can't use both sim cards at the same time, there is a primary sim and a slave sim which requires to select which one to use. its just like having to change sim cards without opening the phone and requires you to restart the phone everytime you do this. i suggest you get your hands on a mobile phone which goes by the brand name of MyPhone. Specifically the T22 Duo model and the S22 Duo model. These models really are the dual sim types which means the 2 sims are active at the same time and you can receive sms from both sims at the same time, as well as calls. please take time to visit this website and see the specs and photos of these phones and see what im talking about. thanks. http://www.myphone.com.ph/phones.htm

D880 Duos slider can work with two SIM cards from different operators or support two phone numbers from the same operator.

Both cards in D880 can work simultaneously to make and receive calls, send/receive SMS messages. The user also can easily select which card to use for mobile browsing, e-mail and other multimedia services. Your WAP/MMS/E-mail profiles are switched automatically when different card is selected.

When you receive the call, the name of the card that for the call flashes on screen and each SIM card can be assigned it’s own ringtone. In case of missed calls, the relevant card is also indicated.

Don't bother 'ask'. It seems that our friends below are refusing the fact that the Samsung D880 can not make calls from the 2nd SIM unless it is first set as primary & the handset restarted. After all: ignorance is bliss! ;)
