Compared to phones nowadays (Dec 2008), its not top of the line anymore but its still a great phone. Excellent construction quality. The brilliant display is very clear. Ergonomics: Very easy and very comfortable to use. Its got all the basic features that phones come with: calendar, calculator, alarms, etc. Call volume is good, as is the ease to type texts. Responds quickly and can play MP3s and some videos as well.
On the downside, it is lacking in terms of state of the art technology: 3G. 3MP camera has a very severe 'shutter lag' - so if you take a photo at max resolution, you'll have to keep your hand (and the subject) still for at least 2 seconds. There's no radio and the java has issues (typing errors sometimes pop up in java apps such as opera mini). There also seems to be an issue with some batteries (maybe a bad batch). My battery lasts about 3 days on low usage and under 2 days on moderate to high usage. This is quite frustrating at times.
Overall, I've had my d900 since early 2007 and it is still a phone I'm proud of. If you can keep the screen protected, this phone can be a great companion.

the battery life and camera qualities are very poor. the phone is not simply what the manufacturers claim it to be. i will not recommend it for my enemy.

Anonymous, 08 Dec 2008battery is a joke!!!!A huge joke. Have to charge it every day! And I dont even use it that much. Bleutooth is off, GPRS is off, light settings are minimum. I dont get it. The only bad thing about the phone.

this phone is great it looks slick and holds great.
but is true any java applications are terrible and browsing facebook is also very very poor

This phone looks great and is great to hold... but performance is poor and when working with Java applications even worse. I wouldn't recommend buying this phone to anyone.
Take my word for it.

With 1.27 modified version, you can create OM skin (with every possible color), save as a skin (.col) file (less than 1KB size) on card, import other skin files, import/ export bookmarks as (.htm) file. I have saved 196 bookmarks in Opera Mini 1.27 with many sub folders (and every sub-folder has more sub-folders) and exported these bookmarks as htm file (34KB size only) to memory card.
With 1.27 modified version, you can play sound (.amr) files, read text (.txt) files, view JPG images (fullscreen) directly from memory card, delete single entry from history, open multiple web pages/ supported files using tabs (as in PC browsers), select any link and open in new tab etc. I had successfully loaded 10 web pages simultaneously in 10 tabs and browser speed was still OK.
All above things are IMPOSSIBLE in official 4.2 beta version but there are some features which are absent in 1.27 version like better video streaming (from sites like YouTube), zoom feature, PC-like browsing, syncronize bookmarks/ notes from PC browsers etc.
With 1.27 modified version, you can save web pages in every folder of internal/ external memory of mobile while 4.2 beta official version can save web pages in ONE folder only which is a major disadvantage!
Both versions have some advantages/ disadvantages but 4.2 beta version has more disadvantages. I have uninstalled 4.2 beta version from my Samsung E200 and now I am using 1.27 modified version only.

Previous version 1.5 was working fine on my Samsung E200 mobile (both E200 and D900 have almost same JAVA compatibility). But I uninstalled it to free some space for other JAVA softwares. Now I have found another old one Samsung compatible version 1.0. You can download GMail 1.0 and Google Maps 2.0.1 official version (not unofficial GMaps) from this page :

This should do it - I think the previous postings about sequence missed out the (options) key at the end.
