1 - yes you do, it's a bit annoying. I've got a e710 at the moment and it just comes 2nd nature to me now to press the input button 3 times before starting each button.
2 - in the "external LCD" settings in display settings there should be a time. For me it's a default of 15 seconds. If not sure try popping into your local O2 branch if you're nearby, if there as helpful as Vodafone then they should know how to sort it.
I'm hoping to change to O2 for this phone next week mainly because they're much cheaper. Is the service any good though and can anyone compare the 2 networks? Thanks.

To Jason:
No service is probably GPRS. I just sold a E720 and I had the same message in the start. Just hit OK (something like it, don't know anymore) and it will search for network. That No Service message didn't had anything to do with the network (at least not in my case).
Just setup your GPRS settings and try again.

like i said before i`m waiting to get my samsung e720 in couples of days. but now i have found out that this phone is too good to be true. i mean it took long time to get into shelves cos it had to be tested plaint of times because some features doesnt work as it says. it had to pass the standard test to come out. for me the phone is too much for what people are saying here, you would be better off with samsung d500. cos in the end the e720 all its features come from the d500 and its cover comes from is earlier brother 700. what i`m try to say is that samsung combined to phone in one in short time. if you want to get this phone dont take my words for granted its personal idea aint a real fact.

I got the E720 yesterday on contract with O2. I have 2 seperate contracts with O2 and have this phone and a Nokia 7260. It is taking a while to get used to this phone and have a couple of questions:
1. Do you have to turn the T9 function EVERY time you want to use predictive text? On a Nokia once it is selected, it stays on whereas on this phone everytime you come out of messages, it takes it off.
2. The external disply clock stays only seems to stay on for 2 secs before disappearing. I have tried changing the settings but there doesn't seem to be a time setting for the cover display. Am I looking in the wrong place? Can this be done.
Have noticed that the user manual didn't cover things that users might need to know. It tells you how to set the quiet mode either vibrate or mute but does not tell you how to activate it. Good job I have friends at work who also have Samsung phones.
Overall not a bad phone but have yet to find a phone manufacturer who can compete with the Nokia features and functions

Dave, you just use a bluetooth dongle. The bluetooth on this phone works great with both sending and receiving. Takes about 30 seconds to send it a full size mp3.

Nope, no speakerphone. Camera is actually quite decent but dependent on good lighting like most phone cameras. I did a review on howardforums.com in the samsung thread. As for the rainbow numbers, i can't get rid of them either but it's a minor thing.

I'm thinking of buying sa bluetooth device to my computer..How's the phone dealing with that? Can you just use the bluetooth to transfer songs, pictures, contacts and stuff, or du you need the cable to do that?
I'm living in Norway, so.. Does anyone know when it comes out here?
