hi phil! are you using windows xp? the phone and modem option is supposed to be under printers and other hardware in the control panel. you can also try checking if the usb cable is attached to your phone correctly. i usually get the offline message when it's not connected to the phone firmly. the part with the yellow arrow on the usb cable should also be facing upward.

Samsungs phones are the best!!! i have the e720 but i'm having problems with it. It keeps shutting on and off once like everyday. Does the e730 have that problem? Also can you transfer mp3's through bluetooth? Another thing does the e730 have a speaker?

thanks stef. i just charged it initially for 7.5 or 8 hours but it's worked pretty well. the batt lasted for a whole day even after i played mp3s and the radio and sent lots of messages so i guess its fine. i think 16 hours is too long and besides the manual doesnt say anything about charging for that long. i just dont want to over-heat my phone especially since its expensive and still new :-)
oh, a trick to getting lots of mp3s into your phones, set ur mp3s to 64 or even 56 kbps. low quality, but hey, its just u who's gonna be listening right? :-) i mean, its not exactly an i-pod.

no you dont need headphones to play mp3 files. you only REALLY need them for using the FM radio since it acts as the antenna.

If you didn't charge the battery as long as you should have initially, you can let your phone die completely, then charge for the rocommended 16 hours as if it were new. Usually workds pretty well.

does anyone know which black version you'll get in the United States? matt or glossy? or if any online store has the silver version? I prefer either silver or matt black. Thanks a million!!!

if u dont want to go through all that trouble to make your phone ring and vibrate at the same time, you can choose melody 13 on the phone. that one is set to do both at the same time. =)
