Yes the phone does have speakerphone and yes you can have personalized mp3 ringtones for each of your callers, photo ID is also included.

Why is everyone complaining about no IrDA? There is Bluetooth and SyncML...BT and SyncML which are a whole lot better for phone data transfer.

BLUETOOTH: anyone know if this phone will be able to play MP3 ringtones through the bluetooth headset or is there any VOICEDIAL? I'm big on personalized ringtones for almost all of my callers and the D500 could not do either of these functions.

        Rouger:

I have the Samsung D500 Silver Edition. I do not have any experience with the Samsung E730, but after studying all the facts about this phone on this site, and compare them with my own phone, or any other Samsung D500, this is what i can tell:

The Samsung D500 and the E730 are almost exactly the same (besides the look of both phones of course). Both have the same ammount of memory, neither of these phones have a cardlock, wich means that the memory inside the phone is the memory you have to settle with. That memory can be used for MP3-files, photos, MPEG4 recordings, voice recordings, etc.

There is however one differance: the E730 has been upgraded with a radio. I am affraid i can't tell if that radio is state of the art,if the sound is great, easy to use, etc. Perhaps you could ask the employee at your local shop for mobiles if it would be possible to hear the sound of it? Or perhaps other people at this site could help you out.

Conclusion: E730 has a radio, D500 doesn't. The rest is, from what i can tell, almost the same. So if the radio is something you do not really care about, than i think the phone that looks the greatest (in your point of view of course) is the right one for you.

        Gr, Rob

There's no USB cable included, (I bought a bluetooth dongle which I have found invaluable) and the mp3 player cannot be minimised.

(P.S. -I prefer this over the D500 as it is a flipphone and the D500 is ageing a bit now)

                  Hi Guys,
Am new here, but have found the postings invaluable when making a choice to buy a phone. However, am torn b/w two phones...Samsung E730 and the D500. Could anyone please (according to experience) help me choose a phone. Thanks

I just read it . It seems to be a music file , which the E730 can play ...

Just search the web , I'll try it myself as soon as my E730 arrives here :)

To: George (RE: July 09 message)

I suppose you're talking about networks; "Rogers" is the name of a Canadian mobile network.

No, the E730 has the option of: 'Melody'; 'Vibrate'; 'Vibrate THEN Melody' or 'Mute', (it vibrates for 4 times before the ringtone kicks in. To be honest, this doesn't bother me too much as often you will feel the vibrating in your pocket before the ringtone starts and answer it. If you're not keeping it in you pocket, then set it to 'Melody' only, (plus if you happen to be somewhere you don't really want the phone to be blurting out a ringtone and have forgotten to put the phone on 'Silent', i.e. when you're on a bus -then the 'Vibrate THEN Melody' function is a saving grace)! I suppose not having the feature at all is a pain, but I guess we're yet to see a completely "perfect" phone from any manufacturer.
