Its an ambient light sensor you douchebag... The sensor detects the ambient light and the phone adjusts the brightness of the screen accordingly, there's no point having the brightness on full when its pitch black outside. It's a battery saving feature (well supposedly... I've got it on my Nokia E65 and the battery still sucks). The G600 is on the o2 uk site with a release date of september. Looks tempting but the samsung menu systems are bloody awkward, symbian me do !

U700 has screen light adjustment but without the sensor I guess.

It would be great if its motion sensor.

A light sensor adjusts the screen so you can see it better.

Everyone is saying the front circle is a light sensor.

Why would you need a light sensor on the front of your phone?

Samsung always presents the best design phone everytime. Starting from its wellknown A100 and A110, the first Samsung's Clamshell type.

This G600 is 2.5G Phone, no possibility to have a videocall, that is what I know for sure since my working area is in the Wireless Telecommunication, that offer 2G, 2.5G, 2.75G, 3 and 3.5G even now for 4G.
The advertisement also not show the possibility to do this videocall, and it only has 1 camera (5MP) in the back of the slide (when u slide it up). The front circle in the upper left only for light sensor, not a camera.

Concerning about the body, that made by plastic, for this G600 not all of the body is made by plastic. some are made by the metal AFAIK from the advertisement.
But remember, the biggest plane right now in the world, Airbus A380 also made by plastic, not the allumunium anymore, that was invented in Netherlands, I knew it for sure. So do not underestimate the plastic material, cause it may have strength more than metal now by NanoTechnology invention. Carbon Fibre, for example, it is also a plastic, because it can be shaped easily (this is the idea of 'plastic' terminology, can be shaped easily during the manufacturing process), but after the process is finished, it will be quite very strong material, as you may find it in many luxury cars or even in jet fighter.

Above all, it is a good phone, with realistic price. Wondering what kind of phone that Samsung will made for 4G, for example in WiMAX network. I prefer to have clamshell phone, thin one, but with very good UI and stable software and more energy reservation scheme.
Samsung, can you provide me with that?

Another example of what Samsung do well... a decent 2.5G handset without an operating system giving you the specs of so-called 'high end' models like the Nokia N95 without the compromise in stability and usability for calls. Also bearing in mind that Samsung are the MASTER in moving form factor handsets; why did flip phones become iconic? Samsung A300. Why did sliders become popular? Samsung D500... sure the D500 wasn't the first, but it was the first really popular one (before people remind me of the Siemens S55)... and the G600 is the next step... the design is like the E900 without the downside of the touch sensitive keypad...

Just FYI... the Z series are not Samsung's only 3G range... U700 sound familliar?

                    Cheers.

                    Dave.

It's a LIGHT SENSOR, not a front camera! G800 will have 3G (HSDPA) and a front camera and will be released in octomber/november.

Why in specifications say the G600 hasn't 3G, but it have a camera in frontside of phone?

@Bobble, this is not nokia which offers many features but really pain to use not to mention the degrading speed of the phone to process, anytime for 6 months to 1 year of use of nokia phones.

Many features, but such a pain to use. Samsung engineers seem not to use their phones.

                                to Farhan:

How the hell are you gonna tell samsung that they suck, i wanna see you create a phone thats bests the competition. Don't be going around saying that one of the largest multi-billion dollar company sucks, you probably make 5 cents a day you poor man.

                                this phone rocks
