Does the super AMOLED of this screen bleed when dropped or is it improved? I've experienced AMOLED phones and it would bleed just when dropped mildly

Anonymous, 29 Dec 2023You're not correct. The S23 is selling quite well actu... moreThey are selling in an acceptable way but not well, at least not as Samsung would want it to be. The main winner is the ultra, not the vanilla S23. And even the S23 isn't really a compact device in real terms. It only is compared to the massive amount of devices with huge screens. 6.1, 6.2 inches isn't especially "compact". And as you said it, the battery is off course small as it has to be a reasonably thin device as well. The better chipset allows it to have an acceptable battery performance (at least compared to the S22) but thinking at the longer run when the small battery will start to degrade then a powerbank will be your best friend much faster than with a bigger unit. That is one of the "compromises" that most buyers don't want to make apparently. The pixel 7A is also called a compact device and it is if compared with the big boys but again it's not really compact, especially in the case of this device as the housing and large bezels doesn't make it that compact and just as with the S23 the battery is on the small side (with a much worse battery performance as a result given the less efficient chipset and power management).

Anonymous, 29 Dec 2023Samsung CAN make compact budget phones if they want to. The... moreIndeed but as for other compact devices, it failed to impress sales wise. All brands are capable to make real compact phones but they don't do it as those who dared, failed at selling them. Either they were too expensive or the compromise was too big compared to the big slabs. There isn't enough demand and thus making a niche device for a niche audience isn't something they want to make. The trend is bigger is better and they all, kind off, standardized their manufacturing process to it.

Why is everyone complaining about the height? The phone is £200~ish and has a great screen, good processor and a decent camera, all while being in Samsung One UI software. what else do they expect from a £200 phone?

Obviously the battery would be smaller too. Like the S23.

Although I do agree that it would be nice to have a more compact phone, a smaller size in the budget or lower midrange I fear that it's something that isn't economically feasible. I saw a YouTube film explaining why not and it made sense as I didn't understand either why it doesn't exist in these segments. The few compact phones are only available in the premium segment, even if sometimes they aren't equipped with premium hardware. Why? It costs too much to make a smal compact phone as everything has to be engineered and made especially for it. The few examples that exist or did exist all failed at delivering the expected sales for two reasons, too much compromises and too expensive while not delivering a convincing experience. Non of the remaining lineup of compact devices are selling well enough to justify the investment of making successors, except from some examples where the laker persists. The iPhone mini's failed (I have one), the vanilla S22/23 line (that isn't that compact) fails to gain the expected sales, the Asus Zenfone who are equally somewhat compact are a kind of niche with reasonable sales but nothing mind-blowing, the Edge 30 neo also failed to make an impact resulting in the successor to be a lot bigger. It'all comes down to the cost of engineering, designing and choice (more like compromises) that have to made to make and sell a truly compact phone while still delivering the same experience as a "normal" (enormous thus) phone. They all have either cheaper hardware or much smaller batteries or casings of a lesser quality. The laws of physics don't allow to make a compact phone with stellar chipsets and big batteries without making it very bulky and thus less attractive and less compact at the same time. That review made me understand why compact isn't something that will happen any time soon in the lower segments, especially when everyone is mainly consuming multimedia and social media instead of normal old school usage meaning that bigger is better and most of all cheaper to make with bigger margins on each sale. Too bad because I would love to have a sub 6 inch device with a decent but not over the top chipset, a 4500 to 5000 mAh battery (even if it would result in a thicker device) in the budget or lower midrange lineup. Maybe one day when the YouTube generation has moved on true compact phones will come again. Who knows, maybe the good old button phone will come again but smarter and faster than the Grandaddy's of cellular phones.

Anonymous, 28 Dec 2023Only if you're rich will Samsung give you a compact option.Maybe if everyone who wants a compact budget phone calls greedy Samsung and tells them directly, they will decide it's worth it to start doing it once again, since they'll make money from it.
But it can only happen if they hear from enough customers directly.
