Anonymous, 03 Jan 2024Its simply that you are so stupid to not know this thing happensSo since you're such a genius, kindly explain how Samsung also sells the bigger A54 and S23 Ultra in Japan as well. In light of the fact that you claim their cell towers only "like" small devices and have a phobia of big ones.

Nowadays, there are less customization, but some phones are still made specifically to fit some operators’ need.

atichko, 02 Jan 2024The dynamics of a phone maker is seldom a case of stupidity... moreWith phones, the supply drives the demand, not the other way around. So if S23-size midrange phones aren't made anymore, it will look like there's no demand for it. But that's just because consumers have no choice other than to buy what exists. But you can't decide what people really WANT based on that.
One of the many examples that proves my point: If demand actually drove supply, Samsung would stop making S phones with Exynos chips for some markets, because everyone knows that Snapdragon is preferred by everyone. So why don’t they? Because they know that people will have no choice but to buy the Exynos S22 or S24 if that’s the only variant available in their region in any given year.
They see how happy everyone is with the Snapdragon S23 and will nonetheless revert to the Exynos S24 (for the base and plus models).
So just because Samsung sold Exynos S22 phones in many places (and will do it again with the S24) means people like it? Hell no! They don’t care what people want!

Not a surprise, 01 Jan 2024Don't be so surprised. While a modified version of ... moreThe dynamics of a phone maker is seldom a case of stupidity. Your claim is maybe based on the fact that you aren't fond of the brand. And, maybe, if you would try to look at it how they do you would use other words. It looks as stupidity but every phone maker that has the necessary financial means will "experiment" now and then, aimed and selected parts in the world, just to check if a thing can work or not. It also tries to see what habits certain markets have in terms of features used by the local population resulting in one the many ways of working of Samsung (and others, especially Chinese brands) that many people cannot understand. It's sometimes hard to understand why certain phones and/or features are not available in the place where you live or why some models are cancelled while it's your favourite. All phone makers are into making money, a lot of money. So the focus will also be on those models and features that sell the most with some differentiation depending on regions/continents/local habits. This leaves people with different tastes in the cold and it's not nice but that the world we live in. Oppo, Oneplus, Xiaomi...all the current dominant brands do the same. Only a few almost never do not such as Apple and Sony. They mostly stick to same port folio of devices.

Anonymous, 31 Dec 2023So they made a small version of the A23 5G just for Japan b... moreFirst of all, Japan is not the world. It's a very specific market with specific demands when it comes to telephony. Just look at their history in that matter. Japan is also one the very few markets where they launched a clamshell Android smartphone with real buttons but those where premium ones. And yes, for the rest they also have the same big slabs as anywhere else as it is dictated by trends. The phone you refer to is indeed a compact phone and a budget one as well. I tried to lookup sales figures about that one but don't seem to find any. There isn't any rumor about a successor either. So I stay with the claim that such phones won't come any time soon, certainly not in the lower segments unless the trend of big is better would suddenly change to more usable sizes in terms of handling. Only here and there there might be a compact one as an attempt to see if the market is ready for that but it won't be cheap most probably.

But anyway it's not really the discussion. The main point of the post was to share an explanation done by a reviewer regarding compact phones and why there aren't that many. In short, it makes sense, the cost of making one versus the potential sales in a world where big is better in terms of screen estate makes it less likely that an abundant amount of compact devices will come any time soon, certainly not in the budget and lower midrange segments.

While a modified version of the A23 5G for just one country may be one of the more extreme instances of Samsung's stupidity, many of their phones are only available in limited locations and/or select countries.
So this is a pattern with those imbeciles.

They're not asking for a iPhone mini size device. They're asking for an S23 size budget phone. The S23 sells better than the bigger S23 Plus. There are LOTS of people who's buy a mid-range phone that's the size and weight of the S23.

Apple tried to cater to all the ppl saying that they wanted small phones. Apple created the Apple Mini phones. They sold so poorly that they had to quit making them. Ppl apparently love to say they want small phones, but don't actually want them in reality. I don't understand it, myself. I like hig phones and I say I like them.

That makes no sense. Plenty of people elsewhere would love it too.
Samsung's decisions on where (and when) to release which phone models are truly strange and erratic, with no rhyme or reason. It's been that way for a long time already.
