Variety for compact phones is pretty low, but you still have a few buying options:
      https://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?nHeightMax=155&sOSes=2&sOSversions=2950
Thing is, some of them are rather expensive, thus further reducing options.
Oh well... might as well deal with the phones we have now. I'm planning to keep my S23 until it receives its' last security update in 2028 (2023 + 5 years). Maybe, until then, we'll see a shift in compact phones market. If not, well I could always get the S25 (maybe even the S26, if Samsung decides to still launch compact S series phones).

Anonymous, 15 Aug 2024Your point is so true about people not knowing that others ... moreOne thing for sure is that the demand for small phones have diminished significantly over the years. This is largely attributed to the evolution of phones and how we use them in general, from merely communication devices to computing devices.

We no longer live in a world where people use phones just for calls and sending text, we now use them for browsing, entertainment, productivity, many others. These tasks are much better on larger screens, because it gives us a more immersive experience, and it's easier to make out little details. That's not to say that multimedia-focused phones with functionalities of modern-day smartphones did not exist back then, but the market for them were still relatively small because of high prices.

I remember how ridiculous I thought the first Galaxy Note was back in 2011. I considered it a portable TV or a miniature tablet with its massive 5.3" screen. Fast forward to 2024, and now most phones in the market have screen sizes of at least 6.5" and over.

For some people, a phone might be their one and only computing device, this is especially true for people who don't have enough funds or aren't willing to purchase a tablet or a PC for various reasons, like not wanting to carry more than one device or because they simply don't like using a PC/tablet. Many people can live without a PC/tablet, but most of us cannot live without a phone.

Which is why most phone companies these days tend to only make phablets, especially for the low/midrange market. So no one has to worry about their phones not having a large enough screen for their computing and entertainment needs, if they're going to use their phone as an all-in-one device.

I'm pretty sure the reason why small flagships still exist is because these phone companies expect you to already own, or have a large enough income to afford a PC/tablet, if you can afford such an expensive phone. There's a lot more you can do with a PC compared to a phone.

Those are just my thoughts about the current smartphone market. While I still believe there's a place for cheap, compact phones, the demand for them is too small for these billion-dollar corporations to care about. So all of us low/midrange users have no choice but to stick with oversized slabs whether we like it or not, and I don't think it's going to change anytime soon.

Small phone lover: Samsung, please give us an affordable compact phone.
Small phone hater: They won't do it, that's reality. Keep using whatever phone you have right now.
Small lover: I respect your right to have a big phone, why won’t you respect my right to ask for a small one?
Small hater: I never said I hated small phones, I just want you to accept reality.
Small lover: Wow! You’re a hater because you won’t allow me to advocate for what I want. Only what you want matters.
Small hater: Do you even try to understand what I'm trying to say instead of calling me a hater? Samsung won't ever make you your small phone no matter how much you try to beg for it.
Small lover: Uh… Are you really so self-unaware? Why don’t you read this conversation again.
Small hater: Have it your way, I'm done with your nonsense.

I think we have a clear winner here.

It's hard to win an argument against 1 smart person with 1000 facts, but it's impossible to win an argument against 1000 fools with 1 fact. And these small phone lovers certainly belong in the latter group.

But the reality is that no one's protesting because phone sizes aren't big enough of an issue to be worth protesting about. If it were about widespread issues like exploding batteries, then yeah, I can see why many people would protest about that, which isn't the case here.

These small phone lovers kept being in denial about anything and everything said to them, calling people life coaches, haters, self-unaware, whatever. It's like talking to a bunch of 12 year olds. They can't discuss for real and just want to have their backs patted, this itself is a major character flaw; They seem to be allergic to the idea of anyone challenging them, and that's what drives me and the other "haters" to the edge.

Imagine being a customer in a restaurant asking for more items on the menu, and then getting mad when you're told by the managers that they can't change the menu because it's the boss who decides. Are you going to keep fighting and harassing the managers until you get what you want? If so, then I'm sorry, I have no respect for people like you.

So yeah, as long as the small phone lovers keep refusing to admit that they might be wrong in some capacity, we will keep living in two separate worlds, and that's not going to change anytime soon. Buh-bye you toddlers.

No. Rat... moreYour point is so true about people not knowing that others also want the same thing. Even with big numbers of people, most individuals are unaware of others with similar needs or wishes. The way to solve this problem is to publicize it, bring awareness, and allow for everyone to unite. In this case, a Change.org petition can help achieve that. And if many people sign it, it will show Samsung the significant demand and potential profitability.

I wrote up a text, but I’m not good with tech or managing petitions online. If someone savvy wants to step up and do the petition, they can then post the link here and people can share it around and hopefully it will go viral and garner many signatures. I give my full permission to whoever wants to use the text below for it:

                                      -----

In recent years, phones have grown increasingly large, heavy, and cumbersome. While this trend benefits users who prefer larger displays and batteries, it excludes those who prioritize lighter, more compact devices that fit comfortably in their pockets and reduce hand strain. While the former group has access to numerous options across various price ranges, the latter faces a severe lack of choices, as the few available compact phones are expensive, making them out of reach to those with limited means. For example, Samsung’s expensive S-series features a compact phone that’s very popular each year (most recently the S24), but Samsung does not provide affordable options for lower-income customers or those in disadvantaged and underprivileged communities who need a smaller device. While they produce numerous budget phones each year, all of them are big and heavy.

Therefore, we urge Samsung to address this gap by restarting the production of a mid-range and/or budget device that matches the size and weight of the smaller S-series phone. Given their capacity to produce numerous devices annually, this shouldn’t be hard. The potential profit could be substantial, as the demand for this is greater than for some of their existing budget options. And relying on secondhand electronics should never be one’s only recourse. We also call on other manufacturers to take similar steps.
