Anonymous, 19 Nov 2024I coul have been wrong about my assessment, it might be due... moreYeah. On that we are in agreement. A35's storage speed when compared to A55 was . . . lacking. It often fell up to 40% behind the A55 in read/write tests, and was on the same level as the Motorola G34, which retailed for roughly one-third of the retail price of the A35. That is inexcusable. At the price point at which the A36 is going to release, nearly everyone else is already giving UFS 3.1 (two are even giving UFS 4.0, actually, albeit with no memory card option).

Tranquillow, 19 Nov 20247+ Gen 3 is a bit overkill for this
Exynos 1480 would'... moreYeah, the SD 7s Gen 2 is near identical to the Exynos 1380 on the CPU side and negligibly better on the GPU side (5 to 10 percent). Ditto for the SD 6 Gen 3, theoretically. The only improvements would be in signal reception and more codecs being supported (though that is a niche issue, as I have said before). This does indeed feel like a "sidegrade" rather than an upgrade, as someone else pointed out. The only ways in which this could be an upgrade is if it has faster storage, esim support in all regions like the A55 (instead of only in some regions like with the A54 and A35), and if Samsung has managed to improve further the thermals and battery life.
At least the Exynos 1480 would have seen the A36 having a decent jump in performance (also perhaps in thermals and battery life, since it is a cool-running and energy efficient SOC). Something must have happened with Exynos 1480 manufacturing for Samsung to have abandoned it. Decreasing yields?

Samsung upgraded the ... moreI totally agree with you but the issue with A55 is it only has UFS 3.1 on the 256GB storage options. Here’s my wishlist for A36:
1- Haptic feedback motor (just like A54/A55)
2- Make the punch-hole truly black. (instead of grey)
3- Add 1080p 60 FPS to selfie lens & UW lens. (Instead of just 1080p 30)
4- Add full Camera2 API support. (Like Google Pixel)

Tranquillow, 18 Nov 2024Regardless, the 7s Gen 2 is not the chip for 2025Sorry but Sammy don't put in Sam Phone the best Hi Midrange powerful SoC like
7 Plus gen 3 one of the best processor in Hi midrange Class!
Probably it's to expensive for Sammy and it's not profitable for them!!!!

Was hoping the A36 would get Exynos 1480.
This will feel more like a sidegrade from the A35.

Samsung upgraded the A55's storage to UFS 3.1, so I'm hoping they do the same for the A36. If it still comes with UFS 2.1/2.2, then that is just meh... And don't even get me started on the absurdity of a virtual proximity sensor on a device in this price range in 2025, when devices costing a third as much from other brands come with a physical proximity sensor.

People here are arguing over pointless stuff. And some over stuff that doesn't even matter to like 99.99% of smartphone buyers.
Yes, the SD 6 Gen 3 or SD 7s Gen 2 of the A36 will indeed be equal to the Exynos 1380 in normal usage. You will see no difference whatsoever in day-to-day usage, gaming, even power draw (though the energy efficiency of the SD 6 Gen 3 is still an unknown). However, the X62/X63 modem on the Snapdragons should do immensely better than the Exynos 1380's modem on signal reception strengths in some rural areas, remote areas, and urban black spots (though there will be no noticeable difference in an urban area with good coverage).
No, the Exynos SOCs do not support a lot of codecs and drivers. However, you think 99.99% of smartphone customers give a damn about that stuff or even have any knowledge of it? No. They just want the decent day-to-day performance, decent battery life, and decent signal reception; and as long as bluetooth devices connect and work as they need them to, they won't care about what codecs are supported. The codecs and drivers issue is such a niche thing. Yes, I can understand that it matters to some tech enthusiasts, and you guys can look for other devices that do satisfy that itch. You're tech enthusiasts who will do your research, wait, watch, and search.
The large chunk of prospective buyers of this device will care more about the missing 3.5mm jack, how good the speakers are, shared instead of dedicated memory card slot, whether it has esim support, the level of software security, whether the display has a good PWM frequency (at least PWM sensitive people such as myself) and how bright it gets outdoors, how good or crap the cameras are, how hot it runs, how accurate is the navigation, the lack of a physical proximity sensor, whether this device still has UFS 2.1/2.2 or if it is being upgraded to 3.1, etc.

Just to help sell more bluetooth headphones for the industry.
