I love this phone because of its size and am now looking for a decent high spec Samsung phone with a 5.9" screen or less together with ip67 or ip68 water-proofing and it doesn't seem to exist so I will probably have to buy an IPhone SE3 even though I wanted to stay with Samsung --- Why do companies like Samsung continue to make screens larger and larger??? There are loads of us out there who simply want to upgrade to a mid-range smartphone that comfortably fits in the pocket.

A40 phone dropped today outside on the bus stop and the big gorilla grass in pieces. It dropped month ago in the shopping mall too, and nothing happened then. I guess needed to find a new phone. Samsung is okay, but they have too much adware apps like Duo, Microsoft installed and news apps. Will probably go for just cheapest phone Android, like Motorola Go, because I only use phone for calls, maps, messages and Spotify Free. I still enjoyed this phone because it was 169 about year and 9 months back. Also I do need little phone, 6" maximum or slightly more. It's no need for almost 7" phone with hands in which these pieces couldn't fit at all. Why they make phones so big???

By the way, I love this phone! Back in 2019 it was almost perfect for a non-power user who wanted a compact, affordable phone. The AMOLED screen is great, has nice RAM/ROM specs, small enough to use with one hand, fingerprint sensor also allows one-hand unlocking, has decent cameras for the price & a 3.5mm jack, extended OS updates... of course the performance (and the battery) could be improved for sure, but then again, I'm no power user. Writing this from mine, I hope it reaches a 5-year lifespan, already close to a 3-year one :]

becke, 25 Jan 2022Same issue here, the main camera just stopped working one day.After some research I realized it is a common issue among this model. It's an hardware problem, the solution is to change the 2-camera module, unfortunately it seems you can't change only the damaged one.

For how long it will gets security updates.
This phone still works, but if in April is 3 years from release no updates, it becomes not secure even if still works. Someone should force providers to update phones for ages.

The microphone is really laggy & buggy since the first few months of owning it and lately after 1.5 years of owning it the charging got faulty, sometimes charges but most of the time doesn't (tried several chargers but the phone is faulty).

Anyone with problems in the main camera? This morning I've noticed that the it is always trying to focus with no success, so the preview/photos taken are aleays blurry. The selfie and the ultra wide camera are ok. I've already restarted the phone and reset the camera settings, with no success... I'm still hoping it is a software update (Android itself or Camera app) problem and not a hardware one (damaged camera)...

I used A40 for 18 months and suddenly the fast charger stopped charging. Other functions were fine. Warranty was still valid but Service provider claimed physical damage, although there was none. I was told that motherboard was damaged and replacement will cost almost equal to the price of the phone, that also without any guarantee that it will work. I have to pay in any case.
This was my first such experience from any vendor. I didn't expect it from Samsung. Just want to make the community aware of such arrogant behaviour from Samsung.

The width of this phone is indeed 2.72 inch, which is 69mm!! not 79mm as listed in the specs! Please change it!

This phone has served me well over the past 2 years, But I think that Samsung should really start thinking about the longevity of their designs, My battery has degraded to the point that it can barely hold 8 hours of charge.
The transition to android 11 was not smooth and it fouled up many of my applications for several months.
My first fully functioning smartphone, On the whole I would say a good introduction to the smartphone market, But I wish they would stop tinkering with it with consistently constant updates.

I've got a gradient banding problem when watching youtube. I don't know if it's a software upgrade problem or only my A40 has it?
