Sam799, 16 May 2022A53 with exynos 1280 is worse than this SD 778G in may ways... moreUsing the Samsung Galaxy A52s for a week now. It had been really long since I last used a Sammy, maybe 12 years back. I always stay away from Sammy because they provide the pesky Exynos variants in India. Secondly, we have too many competitive options for any price bracket. Samsung's upper midrange to flagships phones have always been excellent devices but with an astronomical price tag.

This phone is different in that sense. Samsung by mistake may have created the alltime A-series masterpiece with A52s. Its performance with almost flagship grade Snapdragon 778G SoC coupled with 8GB LPDDR4x RAM punches well above the price to performance ratio which Samsung had initially intended to keep the A series bound to. And then when I count in the best UI over Android i.e. OneUI with four years of software support and an online price of INR26K ($336, €320) all seems justified. I got the Mint color variant, which looks nice.

The A52s even though made entirely out of plastic, feels nice in hand, and I like that Samsung did not went the Chinese way of mimicking glass finish with plastic. The matte finish plastic back is good to touch and provides an unique look and feel. I generally look for three unique set of criterias while buying a phone which are gradually omitted by mobile phone manufacturers, so as to buy them separately and fill their bursiting coffers with more money. These are presence of a 3.5mm headphone jack, a must, microSD card expansion option and a wall charger included in the box. Fortunately this phone comes with all three while it's successor the A53 lacks both headphone jack & charger in box. And then the A53 comes with that unwanted, low performance Exynos SoC.

I hate TWS replacing the golden wired headphones, because TWS is technically incapable of reproducing the sound quality of a high quality wired earphones. Unfortunately even the $400 Samsung S20 FE 5G lacked the headphone jack. The bright Samsung AMOLED HDR10+ certified display of A52s is gorgeous and so are the stereo speakers. However the display has screen flickering issue, may cause headaches under low light conditions. Performance and fluidity of OneUI 4.1 @ 120Hz refresh rate is a joy to use. I truly love the software experience provided by this phone and how fluid and stutter free the powerful SD778G is keeping it. You get premium features like Knox security and secure folder too which are good add ons.

I watched quite a few YouTube videos of how to initially setup OneUI as you need to be carefull else the phone will be filled with junk apps and spam notifications. The phone arrived to me with OneUi 4.0 over Android 12 loaded. After some 1.6GB of OTA updates it arrived to the latest software version as below:

One UI version: 4.1
Android Version: Android 12
Android Security Patch: 1st April, 2022
Build Number: SP1A.210812.016.A528BXXS1CVD1

After finishing all OTA updates, I performed a full hard factory reset to remove any previous OS junk which makes the phone slow over time. Then I setup OneUI from scratch while keeping the useless virtual RAM (known as RAM Plus) to a minimum of 2GB as you cannot disable it. Inbuilt memory in this case UFS 2.1 cannot substitute a LPDDR4X RAM. Period. 8 gigs of RAM is enough for my A52s. The in-display fingerprint scanner though a tad slower is very accurate, you do not need to try multiple times.

All in all very satisfied with the A52s, a very rare Samsung gem of a phone with extraordinary performance, great set of cameras. Audio through the audio jack is surprisingly good when used with USB Audio Player Pro. The app recognises the inbuilt Qualcomm DAC and applies setting accordingly to wring maximum performance from it.

Fantastic phone for its price, perhaps the best Samsung phone to ever adorn the A series tag.

Ayinde Abraham, 16 May 2022Samsung Galaxy A52s or Samsung Galaxy A53 which is betterA52s is better, except software support. A52s mostly has better chip, headphone jack and you get charger in the box (unlike A53). A53 has better software support (up to Android 16 and 5 years of security patches).

Anonymous, 15 May 2022If you aren't a gamer avoid Poco and go for Samsung. But, I'm not a gamer . I'm just an average Monday to Friday fella that takes pictures of every day good food, city scapes, party with friends (maybe twice a year), travelling to other places (once a year) and the usual stuff. So, I still do want a phone with natural, true-to-life, slightly saturated photos with good stabilisation, great audio, above average performance and true all-day battery life.

Ayinde Abraham, 16 May 2022Samsung Galaxy A52s or Samsung Galaxy A53 which is betterI chose the A52S with 8/256GB as it's got SD 778G instead of an Exynos chipset. Some reviewers say that Exynos on A53 is bad and underwhelming so keep that in mind.

I don't play on it much so I can't really say how good it is for games, but playing MLBB in it for me has been great overall. It heats up quite a bit but I don't really mind.
HDR capabilities is a nice feature and it can create a huge boost in your viewing experience but I haven't found a way to utilize HDR on mine so I can't really tell you about that experience on my part.
I wish this display could go for 1000+ nits though, as 800 nits just isn't enough sometimes in the bright outdoors.

I am worried about SD778G. How is its performance. Does it have any lagging with 8G RAM?
Also there is no HDR. Is HDR very important?
I know some will suggest me s20fe. I dont like that bcause of dim brightness

(and it has 20 milliamp more battery capacity but who cares) You do get the sweet experience of One UI 4.1 though and an arguably better camera.

I've heard from many that the Galaxy A52s 5G still has better front & rear main cameras than my first choice Poco F3. But is the latest One UI version further improves the cameras? How about the performance. Are you guys still noticing some throttling? Or has the performance been a lot better since?

Well 70% of battery (my usual) with fast takes about the same time as full charge with (your) superfast (hour something). So far I'm okay with this. I'll see if it's worth to let Sammy charge ME for faster changing. If there are really only slow chargers in some boxes, it's a must. Now I'm not sure if anybody gets 25W or that info is just wrong due to general confusion in charging speeds. Either way, thanks for posting.
