Kurrt, 15 Aug 2024So the 12R should be better suited for gaming than the S23 ... moreNot just gaming, but general everyday usage as well. The 12R blows the S23 FE away in thermals, battery life and charging speed.

Kurrt, 15 Aug 2024Interesting. The A55 boasts a 5000mah battery while S23 Fe ... moreScreen resolution only effects the PPI (Pixels Per Inch), which is basically how sharp & detailed the screen can be if you look closely.

With the QHD 1440p on the Galaxy Note 4 you approximately have ~500ppi, way too sharp believe it or not. Most iphones top at ~460ppi, even last year's S23+ was ~400ppi. 1080p videos will retain full quality, but if you're used to streaming QHD or 4K videos then you might notice a slight difference.

Everything else aside from sharpness should be an upgrade: refresh rate, colors, viewing angles, brightness & HDR. (Though the colors of the A55's screen can seem dull at first because of the new "color science" Samsung is using this year, but they allowed us to enable the "Vividness Slider" in the settings to get vibrant colors that pop out just like the old Samsung phones)

Also if you like to use dark mode, keep in mind the S23 FE has a weird silver ring around the camera punch hole that can be noticeable if you look from an angle. Whereas A55 has a fully black punch hole that disappears like it should.

I own a Canon R7 with a range of lenses so the phone camera is not a priority for me.

The S23 FE is IP68 water resistant, has better cameras, comes with a telephoto lens, USB 3.1, Samsung DeX support, and wireless charging.

Kurrt, 15 Aug 2024Interesting. The A55 boasts a 5000mah battery while S23 Fe ... moreThe battery life between both is almost a night and day difference. S23 FE only got a measly 8:28h active use score by GSMArena, whereas the A55 got a much more respectable 13:27h. This comes down to the S23 FE's Exynos 2200/SD 8 Gen 1 chip having relatively poor thermals and efficiency, alongside a lackluster cooling system.

You're wrong about the updates though, Samsung promised 4 OS updates for the S23 FE. The S23 FE launched with Android 13 and should receive OS updates until Android 17. The A55 is newer and launched with Android 14, it should receive updates until Android 18.

Might be wrong comparison, but how does the A55, S23 Fe fare against the OnePlus 12R which seems to have slightly better hardware in the same price range?

                silversurfer, 15 Aug 2024Guys, which is a better value, S23 FE or A55?If battery is a must, A55. (A55 lasts 13 hours, whereas S23 FE lasts 8)
If cameras is a must, S23 FE.

But i think for most people the 13 vs.8 hours difference is huge.

Anonymous, 15 Aug 2024S23 FE is better, it's cutted high end phone version.Interesting. The A55 boasts a 5000mah battery while S23 Fe is 4500mah. How does the 2 compare in real world situations?
Plus A55 claims to offer 4 os upgrades while S23 Fe is supposedly upgradable only till Android 14(?)

My Note 4 has a display of 1440 x 2560 pixels. The S23 Fe and A55 is way less than that on paper at least. Whats the catch? Edge to edge dimensions is the same as A55, only difference is newer phones takes up the entire screen than a portion of it on my Note 4.
Other than this, everything else is an upgrade.

Anonymous, 15 Aug 2024Hey Kurt, The Galaxy A55 is a great all-rounder with almo... moreAccording to several articles, Samsung didn't release the A55 in the US because apparently it would be priced too close to the S23 FE, which retails for $600 there ($500 on discount).

Honestly, I think the US would still be better off with the A55 instead of the A35, which is basically just the A54 sized up with miscellaneous changes here and there. If they wanted the A55 to still sell well in the US without cannibalizing the sales of their flagships, they could still keep the same $450 retail price as the A54.

Battery life on this thing has been impressive. Constantly getting over 8 hours SOT across a day and a half. Solid two to three days if I don't use it heavily. I'm the first one to call out on Exynos and Samsung fab process, but credit where it is due. I don't know what changed this time but decent stuff.
That's for regular usage though. I still think it can be drained fast in some scenarios like gaming or video recording, where it isn't as efficient.

The Galaxy A55 is a great all-rounder with almost everything you could ask for in a phone. So much to the point Samsung didn’t release it in the US because it would cannibalize their S series sales.

Consider it as long as you’re outside the US & you have the local variant available in your region. As unfortunately, the US doesn’t have a local US Version of the Galaxy A55 that works on all 5G CDMA carriers (such as Verizon). On Amazon US you’ll only find the “Latin American variant” which only supports 4G on specific GSM carriers. (such as TMobile)

Yo... moreThe phone camera is the least of my priority, and if I ever needed to indulge in that "hot babe undressing", Id rather pull out my R7 with 100-400mm. My Note 4 is very much still fully functional except when I turn on the internet. Thats when it gets jittery for a few minutes and freezes up. Once all the noifications are received on the phone, it starts working again. And of course, I cannot play COD or any other on it any more.

When I got the Note4, it was kind of a one-stop all-in-one in that era. In fact, the core hardware and many features still remain the same with improvements of course. Id even say 90% of PS apps are still available for my phone. However with newer brands entering the competition nowdays, Im no longer too worried about having to stick to one brand, as long as the one Im trading in offers me reliability.
