I remember the day,
When one could confidently say:
“My smartphone is sleek, mobile, and light,
Easy to carry, day and night.”
To your pocket it easily slides in and out,
Without weighing down your pants and making you shout.
Easy to hold, whether in two hands or one,
No strain or fatigue, what fun!
Is it a tablet or a phone?
The difference was easily known.
But now the line is blurred,
Most devices are “phablets”, so absurd!
Clunky, heavy, and big,
Feels like you’re carrying a rig.
No longer have you access to a compact device,
Unless you're rich and can afford the expensive price!

With what screens, what manufacturer and what specifications. As far as I know, for several years in a row such sales reports have been dominated by Apple and Samsung phones, and according to the link posted here, I counted 6 or more of 10 models with screens larger than 6.5 inches. The answer is more than clear. Someone needs smaller screens or buys them just because the phones are cheaper, after all, the top 10 is full of high-end devices. They cost a lot of and some A class models. It's fact, real selling fact. People wants big screen. They these days is like multimedia devices. Not just for SMS or calling. Which one it's better for you to watch movies 26 inch or 55 inch TV? I guess 55. The same is with phones. Keep in mind that.

Anonymous, 14 Jul 2024The notion that Samsung makes phones in response to “the ma... moreLook, I can see that you don't really understand how these things work. Yes, I agree that certain things are not done by any manufacturers according to the consumers. But Snapdragon was beautified for Europeans (and maybe not only them) in S-class phones. The headphone jack has been removed, because let's face it, many users now prefer wireless headphones, rarely use wired ones. Wireless headphones are much more comfortable. Many users agree with this. I would just say that the removing of the 3.5 jack would be more according to the users than the whim of the Samsung company itself. Besides, everyone does. To me maybe it's funny that Apple removing 3.5 jack - Samsung laughs about this decision, but later doing the same. The same happened with chargers and etc. But that's what most manufacturers do. This isn't just a Samsung problem, tell me which manufacturers still adding 3.5 jack on all theirs models? I don't know any of the big ones. Still will be model which will not have 3.5 jack. Same is with SD cards. Most (China too) removed cards slot from theirs phones. Samsung one of which have this slot in theirs A class models. Class A is popular. Well, don't write that Samsung does everything without considering the users. First of all, it should be understood that certain things require it. After all, everyone wants a perfect, beautiful phone with full functions, a large battery, etc. And everything needs to fit into a small area. Something has to be given up. I personally had an A70 with a 3.5 jack, I still listened to music through bluetooth Buds Pro or other headphones. Because it's more convenient. I don't really miss the radio, 3.5 jack, or i do not have any the hassle of buying a charger adapter. Well, that's why I buy Samsung, the most important thing is that SD is available. Oh, and the A-class looks quite nice these days for a reasonable price. Samsung heard fans, but not all wishes, it's business and everybody seeing theirs sides. Company have to get money. Keep in mind that too.

Anonymous, 14 Jul 2024The notion that Samsung makes phones in response to “the ma... moreHere’s an amazing idea on how to once-and-for-all settle this debate on whether a significant percentage of consumer want smaller phones or not (I personally think many do, but taking my opinion out of this). Samsung can produce one or two budget/mid-range models this or next year with the size, weight, and battery of the S24, and let’s see how it sells. This hasn’t been done in quite a few years, so it would be the perfect way to determine what the real demand is. Either way, it will definitely sell more units than the multiple spin-off versions (M/F/C…) that are almost duplicates of the A55, A35, and other A series phones.
Not that they should reduce the existing amount of big clunky and heavy A series phones. But rather, in addition to those, they should produce the one or two compact versions with mid-range chips. They can be called the A55e/A56e, and/or the A45/A46.

Anonymous, 12 Jul 2024So true. I also wish Samsung made at least one budget devic... moreSame here.
I got the Pixel 6a because Samsung had no smaller budget option. And if I were buying a phone this year I would get the Pixel 8 (which is a bit smaller than the 8a) during one of those times that Google puts it on sale for $200 less than the official price. And I'm sure tons of other customers are doing the same.

Anonymous, 14 Jul 2024The main reason why most manufacturers are no longer making... moreThe notion that Samsung makes phones in response to “the market” and what customers want is a FALLACY and MYTH. In reality it’s the other way around, consumers are forced to choose from whatever is available, so it LOOKS like that’s what they want, but people can only buy what exists. When it comes to phones, demand does NOT drive the supply, but rather it's the other way around
Want proof?
- Ask customers that are upset by the removal of the headphone jack.
- Ask customers that are upset that Samsung is forcing Exynos chips on them instead of Snapdragon.
- Ask customers that are upset that Samsung discontinued the Note series.
- Ask customers that are upset at the massive and ugly bezels on budget phones.
Samsung isn’t concerned about “the market” and what these consumers think because they know that they'll end up choosing from whatever so-called “choices” are available.

So maybe it's time to stop write here nonsenses about Xiaomi and Chinese's phone overall, especially how good they are if many people from all world have the same claims about this company. Yes specifications is good, but that's the same like to have Ferrari, but don't know how to drive.

Compared to Redmi note 13 pro, the bezels looks much more larger here on the A55. Did any one notice that difference? I checked it on store, Think its even bigger than my 7 years old phone. Did anyone notice that? Another question, Do you compare this phone with the redmi note 13 pro 5g or the redmi note 13 pro plus?

Anonymous, 14 Jul 2024I hear you, I have the base S24 and I love it, but it'... moreThe main reason why most manufacturers are no longer making small phones is because of market demands in general, as many people no longer use phones as merely a communication tool. Modern phones can do almost everything a PC could, and many of these tasks demand a bigger screen.
Yes, big phones can be unwieldy, but they also bring a whole host of benefits - a bigger screen gives you a more immersive viewing experience especially for browsing, watching videos, and playing games. Moreover, bigger phones allow manufacturers to fit more and bigger hardware components, such as bigger batteries and more advanced camera sensors.
Still, it's a shame that small phones are disappearing, and there are practically no more compact low-end/mid-rangers on the market, because not everyone has large hands, and not everyone has the money to buy a flagship phone.
My only hope is for some company to start making small low-end/mid-range phones "cool" again, so other companies would follow suit. I don't believe Samsung would be one of those companies to ever do such, because they're not exactly the best at taking risks for their budget phones.

ONE compact phone, 11 Jul 2024Why in the name of Sam Hill can’t Samsung make at least ONE... moreI hear you, I have the base S24 and I love it, but it's not really a small phone, its only small by todays standards. I remember, when not too long ago, a 5.5" display was considered huge. In fact, I still have the S7 edge, which of course is the bigger version of the standard S7, and at the time it was one of the biggest screens on the market.
I understand why someone would want a bigger screen, and I think its primarily for content viewing, because I personally don't want to be on a plane and straining my eyes trying to watch a movie on a small screen. However when it comes to phone calls, social media and messaging apps, I prefer a phone that I can fit in one hand, especially since I'm very active on WhatsApp, Viber, etc. I certainly would like to have one hand free so that I can multitask while I'm sending messages.
Many people nowadays own 2 phones, and I'm no exception. I actually have 3 phones if you include my company provided iphone 14 (which I rarely use as I detest IOS). I use the base S24 for everything social media, since I don't want to tie up both of my hands using a massive device, and then I have the S20 Ultra as my media consumption device.
Having said all that, I still use the smaller S24 as my daily driver because its relatively light, it fits in my pocket, and I can use it in one hand, if only just barely. I have a feeling that one of the major phone manufacturers is going to make a smaller device, especially given the outcry about huge phones. Even Asus stopped making small phones now, and they made an ugly looking Zenfone 11 Ultra. I'm sure they will quickly come to regret that, since the 11 Ultra isn't selling as well as the ZF 9 or 10. They had the small phone market pretty much to themselves and they ruined it. Way to sell out, Asus.

We’re not saying that all of the many big phone options shouldn't be available, we’re just asking for AT LEAST ONE small budget option a year. And by “small” we don’t mean tiny. Just a mid-range chip in a same size device as the base S23/S24 that are wildly popular, since some of us don’t have that money to spend, but we still want that size.
Does it bother you SO MUCH if we’re also accommodated that you need to try and stamp us out!?
