ONE compact phone, 11 Jul 2024Why in the name of Sam Hill can’t Samsung make at least ONE... moreSo true. I also wish Samsung made at least one budget device each year with the small S phone's dimensions, but with a mid-range chip. In fact, I got the Pixel 6a two years ago precisely because I couldn't afford the S22, but I would have certainly got a lower cost phone that was the same size.

Samsung Watch6 Owner, 12 Jul 2024This explain again saying what i'm saying NICHE small ... more1) Buddy we get it. You personally don’t prefer compact phones, so your definition of “niche” is something you don’t want. But to the tens of millions who DO want smaller phones (some of whom can afford the S24, and many that can’t) they’re not “niche”. You know you’re not the only person on this planet, right?

    2) If M/F/C are the same as the A series (as you claim), then why are A phones available universally, and the duplicate M/F/C only to a few people? Think a little about what you’re saying.

Obviously many consumers want a compact/lighter pocket-fitting phone that doesn’t fatigue their hands. Many of them buy the base S phone, while many others can’t afford its astronomical price, but would buy a similarly sized phone for less with a mid-range chip in it.

Instead of Samsung creating ten spin-off versions of the A55 (each with one small difference in the specs) for just three and a half people, they would be smart to create one additonal version of a mid-range phone that’s the same size as the S24 and make it available universally. It would sell millions of more units than these identical M/F/C/XYZ stuff.

If you think it's too expensive. There's the A35 which is almost the same as A55 but with worse GPU, low-light photo, a plastic frame, and no e-sim for some region.

If you care about gaming, camera, and e-sim. Get the the A55.

If you don't care about those. Get the A35.

My only regret is that there's no headphone jack. But what can I do. Other similarly priced phone with headphone jack is probably worse in some area compared to A55/A35.

Samsung Watch6 Owner, 12 Jul 2024I buy mid-range phones like the A70 from Samsung and the cu... moreYou’re very confused on what we’re talking about. Let me try to simplify it.

The OP requested a phone the same SIZE as the S24 but with a mid-range chip because he can’t afford to pay $800 but still wants that SIZE. You responded that this SIZE is “niche” which is ludicrous because the small S24 sells really well, which means a significant percentage of consumers want it. The problem is it’s very expensive and many more people who want a smaller phone can’t afford the S24’s price, but they would buy an identically SIZED phone if it had a mid-range chip which would bring the price down to $400-$500. Nothing “niche” here.

On the other hand, when Samsung takes the A55 (among many others) and creates an almost identically spec’ed spin-off and calls it the “M55”, and then creates another almost identical spin-off and calls it the “F55”, and then creates another almost identical spin-off and calls it the “C55”, and now rumor has it that they’re about to create another almost identical spin-off and call it the “M55s”, and all these silly almost-duplicates are intentionally only made available to a small segment of this planet’s consumers ("specific markets" as you call it), that is the DEFINITION of “niche”, and Samsung does this every year with multiple models. So if they can create multiple almost-clones of a budget phone for just one or two countries, they can certainly (if they wanted to) create at least one version of a budget phone that is the same SIZE as the S24 and make it available for everyone. Let’s say in 2024 that would be the “A55e” with an Exynos 1480 but the same size and battery as the S24. Or a compact "A35e" with an Exynos 1380, etc. If such a phone were produced, it would be purchased by many more people than the silly “F55”, “C55”, “M55s”, and (possibly coming soon, who knows) “C55s” or “MFCXYZ55”.

If you don’t understand the above then I really can’t help you any further.

These are not expensive phones. It's not about money at all. There is simply a group of people who are more interested in compact and small phones. They fit in your pocket, easily fit in your hand, etc. This is the point, not the price and who has how much money. Sony 1 VI, if i remember right, is a small screen phone and costs over 1000 euros. I'd call it niche because it's like dedicated for video and audio people, but fundamentally it's not that different from the mid-range 10 VI in my eyes. It's what Sony fans call niche. It's hard to disagree with them. This is not a price conversation. You are wrong just based on sales there are probably more phones sold with larger screens than small ones. It's kind of hard to discuss with you, because you have misrepresented the information and I don't even know what to write back to you next time, because everything is the opposite or at least interpreted differently than what you say. Your last sentences are almost out of some kind of nonsense, I don't know what to answer to a person who probably lives in a parallel world and understands everything differently than everyone else. Check stat, then write something. Small screen phones these days is not most selling phones. Most people want big screen. https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnkoetsier/2023/08/29/top-10-selling-smartphones-all-from-2-companies-apple-and-samsung/ from 10 phones more as a half is big screen model. Do you disagree with statistic? Then i don't know what to say you further. And even in this stat is just Apple phones, which like Samsung S class is specific class and is not niche models. Just some variant like Samsung doing with S class.

I didn't quite understand why you thought I classified it as a niche phone? Niche phones, in my understanding, are those that are made for a certain group, not for the general public, or at least that's what the device itself becomes. And this is perfectly reflected by the small screen models today. There are not many of them across all manufacturers, compared to how many devices with larger screens are made. The models you mention are for specific markets, so I don't think they become niche. Like the M model you mentioned, this year's M35 has a 6.6-inch screen and very similar specifications to the A35. And the A35 is not a niche model. M35, if we talking baout it, is a model made for specific markets. It is exactly the same with the F model, which you classify as niche. The F15 also has a 6.6-inch display, with similar specifications to the M15. These are not niche phones. For example: I would probably call the Sony 10 VI as a niche phone, because it has a small screen, has a specific buyer and is certainly not interesting to most. Sony even sells it more not as a phone for everyone, but more for video and audio users. Here I think there is a niche device. Samsung has created several specifically phones for certain markets, which are really little different from the global models, albeit with different letters. But they for this reason, i think, do not becoming niche phones.

Or maybe you never met anyone who's not in your wealth bracket.

The base/small S phones are very successful. This means its size isn't niche at all. A massive portion of phone consumers like smaller and lighter phones for their hands and pockets. Those who can pay $800 get the S24/S23/etc. And those who can't afford that much would certainly buy a phone that size if there was a more affordable option with a mid-range chip. You think for rich S24 customers it’s not niche, but for those who can only afford $400-$500 it is niche all of a sudden? That’s the dumbest idea of the year!

And your idea that a "country has a need for a phone" doesn't even make sense. The M/F/C phones are the very definition of niche. And Samsung just spits tons of those out each year. In fact, Samsung is the king of niche phones!
