AnonD-413387, 30 Nov 2016Actually, I could be wrong that is has the S6 camera sensor... moreIt's got the Samsung S5K3P3 ISOCELL sensor, same as what's in the Galaxy C7, and similar to what was in the original A8 last year. So the sensor itself is not from their flagships and is roughly the same level as the IMX298 in the Zenfone 3 (minus the OIS and other stuff that boost the ZF3's capabilities). Not many reviews of the C7, but GSMarena liked its camera.

AnonD-413387, 30 Nov 2016Depends what you want and your budget. Zenfone 3 has lots of features (all the latest camera stuff, 4gb RAM / 64gb storage, gesture support, etc), great battery life--not sure why GSMarena rating is mediocre--and reliable performance. But the processor, screen, and camera sensor are not top-end, just solid and usable. A8 has awesome processor, screen, and camera sensor, and a few nice features like always on screen and Grace UI.. But it's also missing stuff like a gyroscope, notification LED, and OIS. If you really look around in Taiwan you can get the A8 for about $50 more than the 5.5in ZF3 but in other markets the difference could be way more.

K9, 29 Nov 2016Thankyou SlantedD. I'll follow upon your comments. Regards. K9.I just got an open box A8 last night to try out and compare to my Zenfone 3 ZE552KL. It does feel too heavy at first, but very solid and more ergonomic with the slightly curved metal back. Indoor/low-light camera performance in auto is not quite as good as ZF3, but once I switch to night mode or HDR it it seems similar. I think it's a trade-off between a better sensor on the a8 or the latest tools (OIS, color correction etc) on the ZF3. The screen is amazing, much less reflective than my ZF3 and can get much dimmer (for reading in bed) and much brighter (for outdoor use). Looking forward to getting a sense of battery life - it will be hard to beat the ZF3's ~6hrs SOT!

I bought the A8 last Friday 25 Nov 2016 after I was forced to return my amazing Note 7. I didn't regret going to Samsung choice as usual.
it is fast, light, and excellent, the cam is very good, and the front cam is excellent.
phone size is handy and good, for people looking for the C9, it is faster but quiet bigger in size
Battery if fine but not perfect. fast charging is excellent.
I just wished if they could provide dual video recording like in note 7.
internal and external sounds are so pure and clear
location of volume buttons compared to the power button in the opposite id designed perfectly.
I will keep updating for new findings...

All say it's good in good light, some say it has great performance all around but some criticized the low light performance. One remarked that the base Zenfone 3 camera beats it in low light and showed that it was significantly worse than the iphone SE in extreme low light conditions (more extreme than any normal use situation!).

I think a couple did the pcmark battery test and one got 7 hours 10 min and another got 7 hours 30 min. So both beat the Note 5's official 6 hours and 30 minutes (though the note 5 it may do better now after updates). Some Taiwanese review sites are techbang, mobile01, eprice and sogi if you'd like more info.

Android27, 19 Nov 2016Shares the same SoC with the Galaxy S6. Old ? Yeah. Pricey ... moreSetting aside screen size, the main advantage of the a8 over the s6 should be battery performance. The a8 has almost 30% more battery capacity (2550 vs 3300) and the 1080p screen should help a little too. They have the same chips of course, but you could say the GPU of the a8 is also "effectively" stronger than the s6 because of the lower resolution.
The main camera on the s6 will definitely beat the a8 due to the OIS, especially for low light.
