If performance is your first priority but money becomes your concern, get last year flagship, even Chinese's top like Mi6,op5T are cheaper now
But if your choice is between both, take the xa2
- Equal stb, sides over top/bottoms bezelless
- more compact and distinguishable design
- Oreo and treble project out of the box, a8 is nougat
- bigger battery
- better LTE connectivity
- better camera, even capable of 4K@30fps and HDR recording
- better sound system
- and pretty sure it will be a half cheaper

Compare to a8
- it lacks IP68, though it could be ignored as people were living longer taking care their phones from water damage than before IP becomes trends


About screen panel it's about preference
LCD, draining on darks/blacks
AMOLED, draining on brights/whites

    Samsung grats midranger for a price of a flagship now i understand why people leaving Samsung. Soon the Samsung will work only for top 10 000 richest peoples on the planet. Rest will go for chinese smarthphones for much lower price but with much better stats and specs.

And SD630's GPU is perfect for 1080p gaming, if not for heavy gaming, for which you need a flagship anyway. And neither A8 (2018) nor XA2 are flagship.

I think snapdragon 630 on XA2 is a little weak for a FHD screen for heavy gaming and Exynos 7885 is almost snapdragon 660 level.
