Just look at SAMSUNG recently launched new midrange processor, Exynos 7904, the two big cores - A-73, clock speed is 1.8GHz.
The older Exynos 7885, two big cores A-73 clock speed is 2.2GHz.
And the GPU for both of them are same, that is Mali - G71.
I don't know whether this chip is an upgrade or downgrade...

Easy choice, Samsung cannot live on their brand name anymore, people are not stupid, they prefer to spend less for better specs and design. And quality wise, the chinese are even better now.

Alex, 25 Jan 2019I considered A8 to be the best mid range phone for 2018 - t... moreA8 (2018) is using a Exynos 7885 processor. But the GPU bundle with this processor - Mali - G71 is just an entry level GPU which came from June 2016 (outdated weak GPU).
You can get a new A8 (2018) with 270 Dollar in your country? So good. But in my country, Malaysia here, new A8 (2018) is selling at 425 Dollar.
And for the A8s (A9 Pro), it use a IPS display instead of Super AMOLED because SAMSUNG want to cut the cost and maintain the profit margin.
Regarding the usability and reliability of Chinese phone, the global smartphones shipment for HUAWEI already give a solid indication to us.

Samsung MSRPs are ridiculous in the last 2-3 years, but this is how they test the market. Several months later they discount most of the product by 30%-50%. I've got A8 for $270 and it's an excellent value! Even without the Pie (personally don't want Pie anyway).
The biggest problem with Samsung is the quality this year. IP rating is gone, A8S got LCD... And how can A7 f1.7 camera be so bad!? (Some say it's a deliberate software limitation that gets improved by installing e.g. Google Camera.)
As for Chinese phones, well... When you put a rocket engine into a Great Wall sedan, will it become "Ferrari killer"? No, this thing can only kill yourself. Fortunately, using a phone is not a matter of life or death. But my point is usability and reliability.

I am puzzled...The chinese menace did not come overnight, Samsung had plenty of time to adapt and to launch what their customers wanted....but no, they still launched the overpriced and crappy A9 and A7. Shame on Samsung.

Don,t blame, its nice phone,
Good quality display, 660 processor is always good, ram is good , 3800 Mah battery is excellent, well grip in hand not bulky.. please don,t compare it to others china phones

SAMSUNG will never give a LED notification to their low end and midrange phones.

OMSIM, 18 Jan 2019may I ask whats wrong with the camera? Camera quality is baaaad despite the quad camera setup and the price tag. Scene detection really does nothing much compared to auto. Focusing is lethargic. Bokeh shots terrible. Low light shots doesn't feel like your using a 1.7 aperture lens. Video recording? EIS doesn't seem to work even on 720p resolution. Overall, doesn't feel like an upgrade from the camera quality i once had with Oppo A57.

Anonymous, 20 Jan 2019Understood. It is a good phone for little money but is ther... moreAlmost the same dimension as A9 (2018), Y9 (2019) has a bigger 6.5 inch FHD+ screen, 12nm Kirin 710 processor, a bigger 4,000mAh battery but the weight is a bit lighter.
Frankly, there is nothing I don't satisfy with Y9 (2019). I am very impressed with the loud speaker performance on the phone and the camera performance when taking photos at night.

Price of this phone is dropping fast, hard to find any buyer for this phone...customers are checking reviews on internet. New and hopefully much better Samsung phones are getting launched very soon.
