maf, 11 Apr 2013how come???? internet says that 4.1.2 gives performance boo... moreFor some users might be experienced better. I had tried the Portugeues region official Jelly Bean. One day, two days, three days, was fine, bur after that, it became experience lags, especially streaming YouTube (I didn't install many apps, no antivirus, no battery saver, only one date plus weather widget) . I didn't know what the official Jelly Bean like this. :-(
I think if I like Jelly Bean, better I go for Galaxy S III Mini.

I 'm not sure upgrade to Jelly Bean will fix the problem.

Actually I like Jelly Bean on my Galaxy Ace 2, but after I experienced some lags, like a few days ago I streamed YouTube, I dissappointed, the lag is very bad. The YouTube is running, but if we would like to stop or back, it stuck, for a few minutes (YouTube play, but can't be stopped even I press home button or power on off, it won't stop streaming for a few minutes). :-(
That's why I donwgraded my device to Gingerbread again.
About ICS I don't know. I didn't find there are ICS firmware from http://samsung-updates.com

Today spent time at the store with the ace 2 on hands, it really is a great phone, with astonishing wallpapers, hd display, big screen and performance on gingerbread, ( can you install ICS on ace 2? it's an awesome o.s. also.)

Now my Galaxy Ace 2 is running on Gingerbread. I had downgraded from official Jelly Bean 4.1.2 Portugeues. Previosly running the official Jelly Bean that I followed the tutorial http://androidromupdate.com/2013/04/01/upgrade-samsung-galaxy-ace-2-gt-i8160-official-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-update/
It was fine after installed, fast, smooth, but after several days, I experienced some lags opening Settings, executing apps. The used RAM is higher that I expected, whereas I don't install a lot of apps.
Now in Gingerbread, it faster and smoother. In my opinion, if you like Jelly Bean, choose Samsung Galaxy S III Mini or other brand that has Jelly Bean preloaded, it's better than you upgraded.
