(This is for the "S5830D" model, HSDPA 850/1900, sold in Canada and works on most networks except Wind and Mobilicity or T-Mobile in the US)

I bought this on sale for the same price as a Gio would regularly go for, and at that price I think it was a good value. The out of the box experience was not as good as it could have been - battery life is initially terrible and would not last a day and a night on standby. There are two services started everytime you download and install something from the market and on this phone they seem to drain the battery at about 3% for every hour on standby, instead of 3% every 12 hours. Charge and discharge the battery 2 or 3 times and kill those services and the battery life becomes short but acceptable (1 day under heavy use, 2-3 days of light use).

The headphone jack seems to cause people a lot of problems. My issue was that it would initially only work with the supplied headphones whose left side cord is too short (it seems to be designed to put the call answer button right against your cheek). Other people reported the opposite - it would only work with regular 3.5mm phones and not a headset. The 'fix' was to jam in the beefier 3.5mm plug from a full sized headset; now it recognizes regular headphones though there is a delay in switching audio.

The screen is good to excellent for the price point being large, bright and clear. The 'bad' angle for this TFT seems to be if you tilt the volume key side down. Along with the pressure needed to press the volume keys this phone shows a preference for being held in the left hand over the right. The touch screen doesn't seem to have any issues though the two touch sensitive buttons don't always register, they need a very firm press. Physical buttons would have been preferred and they would also have eliminated the 'iPhone ripoff' look which I count as a negative.

Audio quality for calls is nothing bad but nothing great either - if you use it for lots of calls you might want to consider other options. The speaker is a little better - it has a bit of a nip that prevents it from being muffled when placed down and makes the audio quality very uniform. Headphones audio is not steller, most of the volume range available is just too quiet for anything but an empty room. Audio reproduction is also noticibly flat as soon as the headphones are plugged in.

Most apps run great on this phone and it works well for web browsing (I get 5mbps on 3G with this model), however the processor is an ARMv6 rather then ARMv7 and it shows when trying to play higher end games - some can't even be installed (Firefox for Android also requires an ARMv7 instruction set at this time).

The phone comes with two backs - these aren't seperate cases, they are the battery cover so there is no extra thickness. The default black back is excellent and the texture makes it confortable to hold in the hand. Despite being the same weight it feels lighter then a metal backed Nokia phone of roughly the same dimensions.

One last note is that this phone is very easy to root and unlock without visiting ebay for a code. If you buy it off contract you are 10 minutes away from having proper ownership over it so you can use it on any carrier.

Anonymous, 21 Apr 2012I want to buy galaxy ace,i am wondering about the battery l... moreI've had the ace for 2 weeks now. It lasts a good part of a day if I'm not playing a lot of Draw Something or using a lot of apps. If I am, I'd say I have about 4-6 hours. I have a program that lets me shut off background programs so the battery lasts longer. It's a great phone and looks sleeker than most lower-priced Android phones

This phone is very great.. Up to 2 days of battery life. Superb camera. Many apps is compatible with this phone because of it's ARM processor. Instagram is available for this phone too! Highly recommended for budget-conscious people! :)
