The basic premise of a foldable device with OLED screen is this: The OLED screen is so flexible that you can bend it and role it, and when it is fully open it can return to its original unblemished state.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold has failed to deliver on that premise. The fact remains that the OLED screen is not creasable in the sense that the OLED screen can't return to its original unblemished state once it is creased. The Samsung designers have failed to understand this basic limitation of OLED.
What a failure on the part of Samsung! Considering that Samsung is the principle flag-bearer of OLED display technology. Considering that the talk about a foldable device started as early as 2014, and it was followed up with years of resources and engineering effort. Considering the prestige Samsung has attached to such a high profile project. This is not just another failure, it is a failure on a "spectacular" scale!

There is a fundamental difference in design between Huawei Mate X and Samsung Fold.
When Huawei Mate X is fully open, you face an unblemished AMOLED screen, just like you would with any other tablet.
When Samsung Fold is fully open, you face a damaged AMOLED screen with a very visible hard-crease line in the middle, something you never have to face until now.
Run that Samsung Galaxy Fold silent video using slow-motion (0.25 of full speed), at around 0:51 you will see a very clear hard crease line in the middle. Do you really want to use a 7.3" tablet with a damaged AMOLED screen (with a visible hard-crease line in the middle)?

The pictures are dodged. The pictures do not show there is a very visible hard crease line in the middle of the AMOLED screen. I don't know if they made the phone screen side extremely small on purpose or not. For sure they could make that screen a little bigger, since the phone is costing an arm and a leg for it.

I would rather donate my earnings to the poor than buy a gadget which doesn't solve any problem. $2000 is a mockery to those just living to survive.

ThatoneMTB, 23 Feb 2019its gonna fail it has a crappy plastic display a 4380 mAh b... moreMan, they're not expecting to get any sales out of this. This is only a "beta", if can call it that. Also, if you want to judge something, please kindly either read the reviews or buy it yourself. Don't make judges all from the specs, it's just unfair.

I guess the surface of the fold screen is plastic. So it will not be as scratch resistant as glass.

The gap when the Fold is closed is the killer. Think of a high school binder.
It's only Generation 1. I just hope the Fold 2 and other future successors can keep the device flat when closed. Make sure to increase the outside display. At this point, foldables are gimmicky and expensive... For now. But I envision it eliminating the slab tablet market eventually.
My favorite foldable concept still comes from Xiaomi. Maybe Huawei can surprise us.

its gonna fail it has a crappy plastic display a 4380 mAh battery compared to the ipad pro's 9720 mAh it has a huge notch and its 2000 bucks! the market is in decline so not a good move to make a device that dose not have good features and costs 2000 bucks and don't get me started on when its folded into a phone its 4X thicker than a normal phone and the bezels are acctually bigger than the original iphone !!!!

YUKI93, 23 Feb 2019Sorry, what?
https://fossbytes.com/wired-vs-wireless-hea... moreYou guys keep complaining about $5 wireless buds, which, just like wired $5 are really bad. Try something like Sennheiser Momentum InEar or PXC 550. After listening to PXC I bought it and never looked back at wired.
And I'm sure the future will bring even better wireless solutions, so weather like it or not, 3.5mm jack will be less and less present on phones.
