I use ADW.Launcher and other apps that have made a world of difference on my Gio.The only problem I had was the Gps lock that was resolved with GpsFix app.

1. do not update _preinstalled_ apps such as maps, YouTube etc because the updated version is a separate app. If you did, but don't use the newer features, downgrade like this:
Settings->Applications->Manage apps->Maps->Uninstall updates
2. after you install several apps, restart the phone.
To get battery life:
Root the phone and install No-thrills CPU Control app and select 480MHz. It's still fluent.
My Gio's battery lasts 1.5 days with CPU at 800MHz and 3 days with CPU at 480MHz.

I personally love my Samsung.I could care less for iphones. I would rather have this phone or no phones at all.Our daughter has a black berry but the keyboard is way to small.
