There's a J320Y model that is not included in the article and it features a 1.2GHZ Qualcomm Snapdragon 410. I have a unit that is based in the Philippines.

It's not fair. It's like chipset rasism because the exynos variant in usa got 7.1.1 update but the j320f (the European version ) has Spreadtrum... I think spreadtrum is blameable here because they don't support newer android versions.... Wished that project treble be made possible on almost every phone. Next time i'm gonna buy a phone with cpu from mediatek or quallcom , both support all new android versions. I'm dissapointed. And why they are making so many variants on all phones?

AnonD-410378, 25 Oct 2017i still have android 5.1.1 on my j3 wtf If your device shipped with 5.1.1, then most likely will never receive any major OS upgrades. That's because it has a Spreadtrum CPU, and it seems likely that Spreadtrum has only provided Samsung with drivers compatible with Lollipop.

If your device shipped with 6.0, then it most likely has an Exynos CPU. Samsung has complete control of the device drivers for those CPUs because they were designed in-house. Those devices are currently receiving an upgrade to 7.x.

batata, 22 Oct 2017you have to upgrade it via odin If you have a Galaxy J3 2016 based on a Spreadtrum chipset, do NOT attempt to force an upgrade to any build that was released for the Exynos based variant. At best, it won't work; at worst, it may permanently brick your device.

One was released in North America with an Exynos CPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. It shipped originally with Marshmallow, and upgrades to Nougat for this device are rolling out right now.

The other was released elsewhere in the world with a Spreadtrum CPU, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. It shipped originally with Lollipop, and has never received any upgrades to either Marshmallow or Nougat. I can't say for certain, but it seems very unlikely at this point that it ever will.

Miki, 16 Oct 2017im have j3 320fn if we stuck in version 5.1.1 why in speci... moreLook, there are two major variants of the J3. The best one is the one with a Exynos 3475. This one came with 6.0.1 out of the box. And this one just got Nougat. This model is only for North America.
The second one is your version that came with 5.1.1. This one didn't get updated drivers because of Spreadtrum so it can't get any update. This model is for the rest of the world.

Hence the "or". If you had 6.0.1, then you can upgrade.

Marshmallow and Nougat is only for devices with an E3475, namely USA and Canada versions. They also come with 16/2GB
