The J Series of phones are designed to be aimed at the lowest cost conscious clients but now also favored for mass corporate use for mobile workforce's at a price where it does not matter if it gets lost or fails.
If you want a tougher screen, look at the C, A, S or Note class of Samsung phones. As it gets progressively better the higher up the ladder you go.

I ... moreWell it's just that users have reported easily scratched screens and ideally I don't want to have to use a screen protector. I'm just surprised that Samsung would put a cheap glass on the front of their premium product. Smaller manufacturers do it....feels like they did it on purpose.

I have this handset and the glass is nice and smooth,curved and has a solid feel to it. Huawei has used many different types of glass which have proved just as strong if not stronger than Gorilla Glass. You need to stop over worrying about Gorilla Glass it's not the only type out there and not always the best. Gorilla Glass is not unbreakable

From what I understand some list this phone without protective glass - one retailer said it didn't have Gorilla Glass - can anyone else confirm this? I'm surprised if this is the case, but it is absent on the spec sheet on the various Samsung websites.

I'm a bit surprised by this "little" beast of a phone. But when it comes to the camera which phone is superior in terms of overall quality, shutter speed, faster autofocus, post-processing, stabilization (if any) & low-light....the Galaxy J5 2017 or the Xperia XA1?

Excellent mobile for its price.. reasonable speed, battery excellent even better than s7,
camera satisfactory, nice design .

Can anyone confirm if this has gorilla glass or not and the version? It's not clear on website whether it has or not. Disappointed that the phone doesn't have a noise cancelling mic. Can anyone confirm call quality? Thanks

Cameras are great, it's fast and fluid phone and battery is really good. And about A5 2017, it's a great phone. It has now Android 7.0 with the same new UI like J5 2017 and S8. If you can't decide between A5 2017 and J5 2017 choose A5 2017 coz it's water resistant and has USB type C. But both phones are amazing.
