I also have been using this phone since 2015.. refurbished no less. I keep it constantly plugged in when and use it to watch movies and such. Never had a battery issue (again.. this phone is plugged in 85% of the time (home or work)). The only thing that gave out on me was the headphone jack (inside), it doesnt "lock" the plug in place, regardless, i use bluetooth headsets anyways. No screen damage. The only thing i hate about it (and all cells for that matter) is the person on the other end, will sound like they are underwater at times...

It is nice to see people are still talking about this phone in 2020.
I am using this phone since 2015. It's been a great experience. The phone didn't have any major problem apart from poor battery life, which is quite obvious after 5 long years of seamless service. Things were going pretty good for me, until last monday morning, when I woke up to find my j7's display was sort of melting from the top. Touch response was ok, but the display was dying. Then, within 15min my 5 year old dear friend went blind in front of my eyes. Calls are still coming and even the swipe to receive action is also working, only the display is black.
What do you guys think the problem is? Should i fix this, or is it time to give my j7 a well deserved retirement and say farewell?

I'm currently using this phone, the J700t version with 2gb of ram instead of 1.5gb. Was a hand-me-down from my brother, which he bought 5 years ago. It still runs good and the battery lasts almost the whole day. Although, the screen does have those flickering problems. It only has them when the display brightness percentage is too low, so I solved it by just putting up the brightness. Still, I'm impressed how good it still works even after 5 years! I even run several apps at the same time and I run movies from the sd card.

The phone was great but the display had flickering problem then it was solved by samsung service center they changed its display .The phone never hanged the touch responce was great .The battery life was average camera was very good sound quality was great All over very good phone

It is very fast .There's no lag at all, whether you're on internet or gaming. The camera is quite good as well as the battery .if you're using u.power saving,
10 minutes charging which is approximately 20% battery power can last for 10hrs.

It would be a great phone if it wasn't crammed with unremovable samsung software.
You also get unwanted Samsung advertising notifications.
After updates, you can only use about 2GB of the 16GB storage.
Google apps and Facebook cannot be removed.
The surface buttons for back and appswitcher are too sensitive and close to the edge, just typing a sentence without pressing BACK our accidentally switching apps can be a challenge.
The whole physical and surface/touch button layout and ergonomics on this phone are just wrong and messy, the phone is barely usable without some sort of protective case IMO.
Also screen brightness has a life of its own when exposed to outside conditions (yes even with adaptive brightness turned off).
The cameras are nice however when recording video the microphone captures a lot of creaking and crackling from holding the phone as well as your own breathing sound .
With louder sound like live music the sound gets saturated.
Fingerprint sensor works great, bt, wifi and NFC all work as intended.
Some of the stock apps are really nice though, the samsung calendar app has a much better UI than google calendar. Phone, clock, calc, reminder, optical reader are also great.
the Samsung picture/video gallery is nice but quickly fills up all your internal storage with thumbnails.
For some reason the Play store starts to auto updates apps without the user's consent as soon as you plug the phone to the ac charger. This is a huge issue in a phone with such limited storage space.
It can be a great phone but needs lots of maintenance to cope with the limited storage space and all the other shortcomings.

Here are some tricks for this phone
Max out every frequency in equaliser for higher audio levels while listening to music with the device's speaker
Remove any kind of protective case and put your phone on a stiff surface (like table,desk) to increase volume levels and quality
Try using mono audio mode when your wired headphones don't work well (try using left and right channels if opening mono audio mode doesn't solve the problem)
Use Samsung Game Tuner to lower screen resolution on games (This significantly improves gaming performance)
While taking a photo in challenging conditions, press and hold photo taking button until your phone successfully focuses on the scene
Using Adapt Sound rises volume levels, consider this if your headphones give low amount of sound
Use Snapseed instead of default photo editor. Lower saturation especially on greenery because J7 exaggerates saturation. Some photos get a weird white tint as well. To solve this, lower brightness and highlights.
Disable every animation from developer options (You can open developer options by clicking build number seven times from about phone>software info menu
Default e-mail app lacks features, use mymail instead of default e-mail app
If your phone freezes, press and hold volume down and power buttons to restart it
