i was finally able to make it work. the secret is, first you need to flash the indian firmware, then go into recovery mode, and do wipe cache and wipe data/factory reset. after that again do a factory reset from within the samsung phone settings. and finally the volte icon shows up.

after i installed the indian firmware i was expecting LTE to show up in the notification bar... but it was still showing 4G. and there was no VoLTE showing up either... i went through settings to search for it, but i did not find, also search in the phone app settings... but i did not find.

you can still make free voice calls on Jio 4G network, using the app jio4gvoice. its basically a dialer app to make jio calls, works side by side with phone dialer, and it replaces your default messaging app.

purchased my J700F from UAE. VoLTE is not supported. I even tried flashing the Indian firmware on my device to see if VoLTE feature is present, but its not there.

My concern is whether it's going to get Nougat. Some sources say yes, some say no, and others say maybe. Google is not much help there. If you don't have Marshmallow yet, contact your carrier or check in the settings of your phone to see if automatic updates are turned on. Your phone may also allow you to do initiate the update manually. I'd stay away from unlocking the phone and doing an unofficial update. Future updates may brick your phone if there is code in it that the updater is not expecting.
