A $50 case isn't my problem. The non practical $1000 phone that runs a mediocre and unsecure OS is.

        **FINALLY

Had to charge it for extended period as recommended on first charge. Nice animation for Wireless Charging like the S8+.

First impressions: (owning an S8+ and a note 5) This is a squared off S8+ with 2 cameras (for whatever reason?) And an SPen.

The hardware practicality is a bit better than the S8+ but still can't work till you have a case; I find it still too narrow for me especially at the time I would want to hold it without a case.
The curved edges are more pronounced in real life than in reviews or pictures. It's also very slippery and impossible to hold comfortably after a few minutes.

Switching on and setup strikes me Samsung is aiming at having its own customisation or eventually its own OS - With Bixby you should always be online or it becomes a problem especially when mistakenly hit that button.
It's a nightmare to reach the top of a page or menu when using with one hand.

For my work and business I do a lot of emailing and setting up the Samsung mail and testing it out showed a below average email app - it's not a real time or intuitive app for a serious business user (regardless of the setting). Downloading a 3rd party email app introduces Ads and phishing wares which is not good for me.

The fingerprint sensor location I thought would be a problem is not that much of an issue when you have the other hand ready to catch the phone - it's not a practical thing for me as I have to always mind carefully especially with one hand.

Overall I find it better than the Note 5 because Samsung has officially stated that none of their phones will get support for more than 2 years, so Note 5 won't get Oreo or even 7.1.

Have spent almost an hour customizing this set to get a better keyboard and find out my downloads are bringing more lags (yes. Without an SD card I'm already having lags). Shocking thing is that Samsung officially allows some ads on the Samsung "internet" which means as I just checked for some items on OLX, I'm seeing their ads with my specifically searched items on my other browser pages.
This reminds me I'm still on Google where anything I type is being phished and any app can include codes that find anything on my phone.

As suspected, the dual messaging feature gave me 2 WhatsApp accounts BUT each time I opened the other space it brings a general slowing of the phone ( where is my 6Gb RAM??)

My conclusion on this that since my wife has the S8+ now, I would keep this for compatible android messaging apps, some browsing, WhatsApp and calls ONLY.
I don't regret buying it because it's a Samsung flagship and about the only class they would give 2 years support. It will need a case, it's fragile and frustratingly so.

This has led me to understanding what I really need from a phone - the ecosystem!
I need a phone that has a consumer oriented exclusivity, secure with my data, my banking, personal entries, I need an ecosystem where I can start an SMS on my phone and continue on my tablet and end up on my laptop, I need a phone that offers quality, out of the box simplicity, highly walled and prioritized apps that provide ease of use and connectivity.

I don't want to be worried about having the cyber attacks affecting a $50 phone on my $1000 handset. I need an ecosystem where I can reply to my messages on my tablet, phone or my laptop and also pick calls from any of them.

I need a work phone, a business phone with a comfortable, secure ecosystem where I'm the client/user and where I'm not the product being sold to marketing sites, spammers and hackers.

This will be my last Android phone. I will not sell this as the Note 5 is dead to Samsung already.
I will however get what will be my work/business phone - The iPhone 8 Plus ( I have the 6s Plus and it simply works, I don't need to customize and keep customizing), - My work/business Tablet, the iPad Pro 10.5 (which can also double for couch bound entertainment)
        - And the macbook Pro with touchbar.

This is my conclusion on this handset and even with the emoji keyboard I downloaded, it's still terribly cramped without a case to use.

Have had for 2 days.Took this over an iPhone 8 plus 256gb.(coming from a 6splus 128gb)Seems ok so far.Not sure why telcos in Australia only offer the 64gb version. Nothing a quality SD card can't solve.tech 21 cover added minimum bulk and tempered screen protector of course.Usual great Samsung camera.Have not fully explored phone yet.Last note I owned was a note 3 which was great.Nice and smooth for an android.great design, fantastic screen.Perfect size for my hands.Fingerprint location Is ok with me seems natural and is quick to unlock.iphone f/print sensor better for car mount.Great phone for Netflix etc.I always play around with/use s-pen.Sure iPhone more powerful but so boring. Can only see me enjoying this phone for the next 12 months-Samsung offer a free screen if damaged in the first 12 months.Great battery life too and quick charge and light to carry.

Quite large, to handle, and expensive to buy and maintain! Inside it's same as, others except the looks. No way justified 1100$, still nincompoops left!

This is an awesome Set! I have recently bought :D :D Initially I faced and heard complains on battery life but since I went though everything deeply and found that it was set to high configuration so battery was draining fast but now when I set it to MID I felt satisfying! Now I am loving it !

Aadrian, 13 Oct 2017That’s cool, it means we both get the phone at the same day... moreHad to get mine from Amazon after reading reviews based on Verified Purchases, so I can give one too. Also picked a seller that would ship internationally.

Unfortunately the case I wanted (AlCase) wasn't available for international shipping, so I will have to deal with getting a Nilkin or Otterbox locally.

                    Can't wait to unbox it

The Otterbox case helps with the width as on the S8 plus. I like the bulk it adds too (from the pics). The sharpness of the screen is well pronounced (compared to the Note 3)

The curved screen is very visible too, experiencing it will conclude my take.

                        Thanks for sharing!

Note8 has problem taking shots with presence of light source (especially at night), like street lamps, firework, Moon....there is lens flare or ghosting, a bright green spot appear in the photo. This also happen when taking video, the green spot move with the light source (firework).
Service guy said this happen to all Note 8. But i do not know if different units would have different degree of flare. Disappointed with Note 8 camera.

I am really enjoying the large 6.3" screen. I was looking at my Note 3 yesterday, and man, the tall screen aspect of the Note8 has been quite useful, plus the fact it has the Glance function for easy referencing. Very happy with the change. Just look at the comparison:

                                        http://flic.kr/p/YimAaY

I just didn't like the curved side edges that triggered accidental touches. Putting on the OtterBox Defender Case solved that. Speaking of the case, it has great protection but has no kickstand (the external clip is hard to operate) and easily solved it by integrating a Spigen metal kick:
                                        http://flic.kr/p/YknQ2R

Since battery is average, I solved it with a Scosche magnetic power pack with a USB Type-C connector (yes, attached securely at the back when I need it):
