Get Titanium BackUp to remove or freeze apps from turning on.
Get Greenify for really hibernating apps after use.
No need to wait for an update that Samsung has never promised for a device that is more than 2 years old. And when you do get updated like MONTHS after, default apps like Samsung's Galaxy apps manager need to be silenced for constant updates like every other day. Annoying , and wastes battery.
If you need real security, get Cerberus. I have it set to be systems app - still there after a hard reset. I can totally control my phone via SMS like locking it, getting the SIM phone number and taking pictures of the would be thief.
I've been doing this since the Note 1.

Root will NOT remove the UPSM in the Note Edge.

And the reason i didnt buy note 5 is because non removable battery. No sd slot. Note 3 i use 128gb and have extra batteries so i never run out. Cant do that with note 5. Note 3 and note edge are good. But not 3 is my fav note.

AnonD-317621, 07 Feb 2016It'll be a long wait. My partner roots all his phones he used. From wildfire, note to s3 and htc phones. He enjoys doing it. But i dont want my note 3 rooted as i have note edge which has ultra saving mode and features like note 5
And yes i admit there more things you can do with a rooted phone. i rooted my note and put cm in it. It worked ok for a time and maybe becuse its old it lagged. So i put orignal rom in it came with as i backed it up fist and then unrooted it. But im just saying some few might not know how to root phone. But my partner likes rooting his phones. So im not against it i just say to users to be careful unless they know what thier doing.

Updtes are importnant. My model had no problem with 5.0 update. So yes updats is important. N900 model needs them.

With the Note 6 being at least 8 months as expected, I don't see the inclination of getting the Note.5 at all. My region is only selling 32GB version, which has the same lack of memory expansion. I was so mad that I got myself a 128GB microSD card to replace the 64GB, as it was filling up most of the time. I'm holding out to see the next Note to be, but I am enjoying the convenience of the memory expansion of my 2+ year-old Galaxy Note 3, being able to store a lot of media for my needs.
32GB internal ONLY was a great joke for Samsung to be able to consider for a flagship device. That's why they failed to sell S6, and Note5 variants and we hear NO news of them making record sales. Tey even took out some software features like annotations on the S Planner, and Nearby Devices function was also gone. I use that feature a lot.
Meantime, I'm enjoying the many more advatages of removable battery becoming double-capacity, infrared remote functions, memory expansion, USB 3.0 for fast file transfers, and the fact that the S Pen does not get stuck the wrong way - no telling which ones which are fixed with the new "anti-stuck" mechanism switch.

r1, 08 Feb 2016It's a cm not officialIts still on offer tho,s2 is still a great phone and was robbed for the s2 users to have a choice of any update,updates are OK but its a chance you have to take,it can ruin a lot and rob you of other things on your phone,if you beg for updates then you got to take the consequences that come with it !
