Mohamed , 30 Mar 2015guyz I've a very important inquiry before i buy Note Edge .... moreNo because there is still a small rim just below the edge screen where your finger will rest while holding it.
And it's just a matter of getting used to.
Just like when Samsung introduced a big screen phone, the first Galaxy Note, almost everyone is mocking, now when Apple released iPhone 6 Plus, seems like everyone is amazed by big screen. WTF!

When the filp cover is closed there is still a small rim under the edge screen where my fingers rest when holding it without touching the entire edge screen.

                [deleted post]True!
iPhone is two years behind Samsung.
It is only the name "Apple" that people pay not the unit.

Compassion , 26 Mar 2015Thank you so much for your detailed analysis and comparison... moreOne nice feature you may not have acknowledge.. is note taking.. notes are very doable with the pen. I do encourage you to practise doing so before you NEED to.. It doesn't look practical if you are figuring out the 's-pen' when eschewing paper for an impromptu note

camera zoom quality is excellent (post processing not as good as iPhone with regards colour balance (I think, there was some metric the iPhone was equal to for a software perspective).. otherwise better camera in EVERY respect),.. if you record in 4k;being able to zoom in on final take is nuts.. there is just sooo much detail.

battery life:(I am guessing part of the reason you are considering a phablet..) 4.5 hours standing on its head, whilst doing calculus =D
Both the Note 4 and Note Edge have more than enough for a day of usage,.. so neither truly has an advantage, both excel!

if you chose the AE2 for comfort (and find them a slight lean on the bass) then this phone will allow you to reequalise them to perfection. The sound quality is phenominal. Whilst I am an Audiophile (not a dirty word) as my primary hobby, and appreciate the Wolfson DAC in the non Snapdragon Notes, The Soundchip is waaay more than adequate. I couldn't believe how much quality it game me and upgraded my Sony MDR1s to some Sennheiser Amperiors. I am glad your Bose are NOT the noise cancelling variety as they won't muck with the sound output. Depending on your genre types (eg anything complex) I would recommend lossless audio files. Simple genres (eg a three piece band) can get away with 320kpbs as 'transparent', but with nice headphones- it is a solid audio source, and, whilst I didn't read the full innerfidelity report (Tyll rocks), I think it showed them around 38ohms and should go 'sufficiently loud' from the straight headphone output. I don't believe them to be large driver headphones, and whilst a headphone amp can offer a better damping factor (driver control) for large drivers or give better headroom for hard to drive loads.. I wouldn't think you would gain by offboard DAC or AMP.
                          (Perfect portable source)(with upgradable memory!!)

I didn't comment so much/ qualify the speakerphone VS a M8. I know my HTC TouchPRO2 had phenominal speakerphone capability.. and it is one of the features, whilst seldom used, that can make or 'break' the perception of quality.
So as to not build up your hopes, I simply refer to it as functional, as I have not used the HTCs Mseries speakerphones. The capability for the speaker to go loud, so long as you can position yourself well in relation to mics, you won't find this feature 'cheap' on the Note.

Certainly,, ignore comments about phone getting hot. I can think of two reasons a phone gets hot. a) poor aerial design and high SAR (phone ramps up power usage in aerial and generates heat)
                          b) playing games or running 2.7Ghz phone flat out (I have not been able to achieve this, though your mileage may vary. I have found the phone to be cool as a cucumber, nearly always. Compassion, I think professional usage would be 'screen on time' and not a lot of 'number crunching', I think you will find the product cool.

The White model Note Edge does leak light around the bezel. (The Note 4 does not). This made me cancel my order for a white one, and, since Galaxy S2 days, told myself any OLED device should have a black bezel to match the beauty of the black screen. In a professional medical environment the white might offput people less, and attract the eye less. This is a hard call to make.. personally I recommend the black, but I feel you might feel more comfortable with the white if you are concerned about the phone drawing attention. (Although most people get the white cause it has bling/bragging rights appeal)

Glad to know you will still have the M8. If you have the gold version you would miss it at conventions/golf course.
Although with the official flip cover, the note edge is pretty sexy in a sublime way.

AnonD-353013, 25 Mar 2015And my post after this one covers optics and mic etc.. ... moreThank you so much for your detailed analysis and comparison between the M8 and the Note. You nailed it for me with the reasons that I was looking for in my daily driver which are as follows -

                            1) Excellent mic quality and pick up is very important to me due to the long conference calls I have with my fellows and colleague in the hospital

                            2) A high res screen is very handy to watch my procedures when I am back home.. Being a reviewer for a few journals, I usually need to watch a lot of stuff on my phone and the editing abilities of note 4 would be great I guess.

                            3) Speaker phone calls was excellent on my M8 and when you say that they are 'do able' on the Note 4, it's sufficient and not a deal breaker :)

                            4) Camera was one of the biggest bottlenecks of my M8 which would easily be overcome by The Note 4 with its excellent sensor and post processing algorithms (I hope they are as good, if not better than on be iPhone).

                            5) As a cardiologist, I work for long hours in the cathlabs where reception is the lowest compared to elsewhere in the hospital and I am glad to know from your review that it has an excellent antenna design and a low SAR

                            6) After the lollipop update i have been consistently getting 4.5 hours of SOT on my M8 and I find it good enough if not great for my usage.. I hope the Note 4 is equally good in battery life.

                            7) I currently don't have much use for the Gear Fit, but thanks for the suggestion :) satisfied with my conventional Hamilton on my wrist for now ;)

                            8) I use the Bose AE2 (even the Senns HD280 I used previously were good). I hope the Bose will sound great with the Snapdragon audio chip on Note 4 after reading your review.. The audio output in terms of watts is very high on my M8 though

One handed use won't be as good as my current M8 due to the size of Note 4 but it's a phablet, so no complaints there...
I just hope the Note 4/edge doesn't get heated up much with moderate use..

But Thanks a lot once again for your help and review.. Your appreciation for the M8 is well taken and I see no reason in retiring my HTC one M8, and so I HAVE ORDERED A NOTE 4 AND I am keeping my M8 too which probably my wife (who is a dermatologist and isn't tech savvy as much) will use.. In any case it has been a great phone and I am keeping it So that I can use it for its amazing user experience and fluidity whenever I want to carry something compact during my travel for conferences..

But for now, Galaxy Note 4 it is.. It definitely is powerful as a tech tool and offers some great functionality (which as you said will require me to sit down and figure how I can make it more productive)..

                            Thanks whitedragon..

P:S - I just hope my patients don't get scared (due to its sheer size) seeing me take out a Note 4 in front of them when I am on my rounds ;).. Lol..

                            Regards

Wtih regards to VS an M8...
I actually recommend that phone to many people as 'the perfect phone'.
it is a price class lower, but feels stellar.
I have always like top tier HTC so am a brand loyalist.
Samsung gets me for their OLED stuff.
The screen alone is worth it (to me); it really depends on your usage scenarios.
I find the camcorder in the Note 4 (sony imx240) is phenominal, and, being a photography industry person for many years.. is reason to purchase. (the camera that you have on you is the one that 'gets the shot')
At 1920x1080 mode it has great stabilisation features and HDR (YES!).
At 4K recording you can film lightning storms and get the perfect 'freeze frame' moment (at 4 megapixel, good enough for prints!)

The phone does have a 'one handed mode', something that Apple haven't mastered yet with their 6Plus.

Phablet class phones, the Note IS the only option.
The S-pen is a wacom. In terms of cut and pasting and commenting with handwriting.. a process could easily take fifteen minutes on a PC, is half a minute on "the Edge"(or Note 4).
Being in a bank que and getting actual work done is awesome.

I would recommend getting the flip cover, (the official one) it wakes the phone when you open it.
I use a samsung fit wristwatch that when in close range of my phone, unlocks it for me.. so I still have full security.
Also having confidential files in private folders is cool.
My daughter can happily pick up my phone without me worrying what she can find on it (I save fun facebook pics not always appropriate to a nine year old).
Even without accessories.. the Note series has excellent office software.
It is fast and I find it efficient to use.
I do recommend you spend some time with it actually thinking about ways to make it practical for your use.

I loved, with the flip cover, having calls and info on 'the edge'. The best thing about the edge, though, is just a wider portrait mode for 'everyday' stuff (like webpages).

Whilst I would imagine a Doctor wouldn't wear fun stuff like a 'fit' smart watch.. I enjoy the sleep monitoring and longer than smart watch battery life.
It suits my needs to have my phone lock when I am not next to it, and yet, never need me to have to 'unlock' it.
Some of the edge features I use less now that I have a 'remote display'.

For phablets though, Notes' for the win.
productivity is what it is all about.

The screen is better than any you will have at home.
(and I run 12k projectors and reference plasma)
So if you have any moments to run, say high def medical footage (c'mon HDDVD thrived for years because of its medical industry usage, yes?).. the screen combined with say, some Sennheiser headphones, calibrated to your ears (my note tells me my high frequency is down a little on my left ear, and corrects music accordingly), is just an awesome media experience.. I put to you, you will give up the couch at night to retire to your room to watch a TV show on your phone.. (I hate Tv, have no aerial plugged in to a set, yet enjoy watching ANYTHING on the Note)..

                                        Over a HTC M8..
                                        they are understated style...
                                        hard call..
for phablets though.. i would say "absolutely, yes"
