Its due to a little too low white temperature, a perfect white for a display is defined to be be 6500 Kelvin, Note 2 obviously falls a little below this. However its much better than Galaxy S/S2/S3, as these all have to high temperature, the Galaxy S as much as MORE THAN 10,000 Kelvin! Thats why The galaxy S series phones look so blue, and thats much worse than the little yellow tint of Note 2.
The tints, be it yellow or blue, vary with brightness, thats one of the big problems with AMOLED calibration, they need separate calibration for different brightness levels. (On an LCD you dont adjust the displays intensity when you adjust the brightness but rather the backlight intensity, LCDs are therefore almost perfectly linear in color reproduction when changing brightness.) If you still cannot see the yellowish on medium brightness then open a webpage and put it next to another cellfone, its really obvious enough for an untrained eye to see.
Low white temp = yellowish, high white temp = blueish.
Im very sensitive about display quality and i really dont like AMOLED hones for this reason, but i can accept the Note 2, its a mile clearer than S3 due to the new matrixand it doesnt have the annoying blue that the S3 have, and while the viewing angle of Note 2 is the lowest i ever seen on any phone (just a few degrees tilt will make the display bluish, but this is fortunately not noticeable in movies and so on, most noticeable in webbrowsing where the screen is mostly white).
AMOLED screens are inferior in most ways but the Note 2 has the clarity to compete with LCD, safe to say i love my Note 2.
