Anonymous, 29 Mar 2023Can you do a battery drain test overnight with your S20 FE ... moreIf your getting over 20%/ 25% overnight drain there's clearly something wrong with the phone sorry
And that's idle on screen surely would be worse right?

Jacek, 29 Mar 2023Today's routine: 85% charge at 1 PM, slightly less usa... moreCan you do a battery drain test overnight with your S20 FE 5G on standby: screen off but at 120Hz, mobile data, AOD, location and bluetooth off? Also set DND (do not disturb) to ON. What's your drain rate overnight with those settings in (% drain/ _ hrs)
The standby overnight drain is the only figure that is comparable between phones of the same model because battery drain during the day when the phone is in use is highly variable and not directly comparable due to the nature of the activity (gaming consumes a lot more than browsing or sending messages).

Jacek, 29 Mar 2023Fully upgraded to the latest version. What's the 'latest' version on your phone? OneUI 5.1 or is it OneUI 5.0? Other regions still have not received OneUI 5.1 so the 'latest' for them is OneUI 5.0

Today's routine: 85% charge at 1 PM, slightly less usage than on the previous day. It's 2 AM and I'm going to sleep - I have 23% left in the tank.
Latest version of the software, screen set to 60 Hz, AOD on, almost constantly connected to WiFi, cellular data off (and only 4G when on), BT and NFC off. Zero gaming, heavy Facebook/Messenger use and lots of Internet browsing.

Yesterday I have charged my S20 FE 5G up to 85% and used it throughout the day (Internet, Facebook, Messenger, WiFi on, AOD on) from 1 PM to about 2:30 AM. At that point battery was at 15%. Then I slept till 10:30 AM and battery dropped to 12%. 33 hours, 25 hours of usage, 8 hours idle and it used 73% of the battery.

I do agree it would be a pity to give up proper OneUI 5.1 experience too fast (not to mention a new phone's warranty). I currently wait for it on A52s and already have a few favorite features (have checked on other phones already) coming with this update, while hoping for better optimization as well. So again, "goodlock" to sort this out. (Smart Tutor - though the same)

Anonymous, 28 Mar 2023Yeah you could be right, proper checked battery last night,... moreYou still haven't received OneUI 5.1 with the March 2023 security update? Try going to settings and tap 'software update'. If you get a download prompt, maybe you can proceed with the OneUI 5.1 installation. That way, we'll both know if my battery drain issue under OneUI 5.1 update is an isolated case or not. You don't have to do it of course given the possibility your phone might do the same, but I'd appreciate if you give me feedback if you do decide to update to OneUI 5.1

Anonymous, 27 Mar 2023You won't get more OS upgrade, still may receive a pat... moreYes, I could certainly root and install a custom ROM like I did with my Tab 2 10.1 (P5100) ten years ago, but I don't think my brand new S20 FE 5G deserve that treatment because OneUI 5.1 is perfect on the S20 FE 5G. Really smooth, lots of features my Pixel 7 can never offer, and it's really just the battery drain that's bugging me and no other software issues. I think I'm gonna tolerate it for now and try ADB commands first before rooting and installing a custom ROM if it becomes unbearable. As for Smart tutor, the customer assistants will probably be not much help. They're really not technical experts.

Anonymous, 27 Mar 2023I did factory reset my S20 FE 5G twice. Still the same batt... moreYou won't get more OS upgrade, still may receive a patch to fix, right?
Hmm it's indeed possible to do it intentionally. Personally I'm not into believing such theories unless it's clearly proven. And some devices ARE good. Yet you may say they don't do it on all... however there's no proof to know this. I must say never been facing such bad drain on idle, though. 🤔
Anyway, it's clear there's some undesired background activity on your phone. The second possibility is some hardware (incl. battery) gone faulty. Nothing to lose, I'd discuss it with support/service center and ask for HW check or SW solution. A known user here officially reverted to Android12 that way some time ago. He said it would be possible in limited time period only, though. If all fails and you're deeply convinced it's a software issue (and no patch arrived), consider forgetting warranty and swapping SW on your own, custom ROMs and so. Guess it's better than phone laying in a drawer. (my experience on this rooting stuff is very limited)
One last idea is try SmartTutor. No idea if that thing's for any good but why not.

Anonymous, 27 Mar 2023I think also turning virtual ram off maybe helped a bit too Yes, did the same. Also turned off Virtual RAM as one of the first measures before I went with the more aggressive approaches (airplane mode, factory reset), but the 3%/hr battery drain on standby persists. It's probably a hopeless situation which only a software update from Samsung can fix - or just buying powerbank or a new phone (Pixel 7a).
