Several weeks after ditching it for my ex s21u I wanted to power up the s22u back again.
After several app updates, one minor patch and replacing the Google Messaging for the default Samsung message app (there was news that GM drains battery life), battery life jumped from 5-7h to 6.5-8h SOT. Well, I'll be damned.
Took them 2 whole months to come close to S21U's battery level, but they finally managed to do it.
Now they only have to fix the general smoothness and stability and work on camera quality. Never in my life I've had so much bad experience with a phone, especially for this price tag. Hopefully it'll mature completely in a month or so, right now it's halfway there.

All mobiles with non removable batteries will be problems when batteries expire after few years . Mobile companies must make mobiles with removable batteries or with batteries which never expire.

If you love your phone, I can respect that, and don't let me change you. We just have different viewpoints. When I bought my S22U, I had buyer's remorse (uncommon for phones), because it did not meet my expectations. Perhaps it drove me to be negative. Battery yes, speakers too were a bit soft compared to previous owned devices. Regardless! The importance is in future decisions, which is now clear...

I have the SD version and I'm very curious about the heating issues ppl talked about it's almost like I want it to experience it. I mostly use mobile data. I can say the battery drains quicker which is normal for me bcos I have apps I can't put to sleep or deep sleep running in the background that jabs at the battery plus I capped mine whilst charging at 85% to preserve my batt. I slapped Spigen cryo cooling case not long after I received the phone. Happy with it.

Since two months of usage i can tell you, it can provide a very good battery life. But there are so much bugs and so many other issues. As a flagship device it shouldn't be. Even installing a application also taking too long time, some times extreme heating issue also.

Back again with my S22 Ultra, all the negativity is funny to read. I am loving this so far, its wonderful for simple tasks, drawing is a breeze with the S pen, with help of an application to disable GOS restrictions, I have no issue running games, the battery gets me through the day a lot better than my A51 did, I don't have to worry about my phone dying at work like I did before, and I love the cameras and the features that brings. Apart from small issues like Expert Raw making the wide lens way too exposed and has to be manually be adjusted. I will come back later when I find more noticeable issues. Browsing these comments gets me wondering if people actually enjoy their phones

I also miss those android days but that's not the direction things are going in. I also miss the days where "jailbreaking" apple devices and repairing them was easy and doable in a few minutes.
For your statement about "balance" if you look at the S22U, its technically got the best battery life out of all the SD8 Gen 1 phones so far. It doesn't make it the best battery life phone period, but it does make it the best with its current hardware. I don't think there is any SD8 Gen 1 phone that is more balanced than the S22U. I mean it literally has everything right? Its only downside is the price. It may not be the best at everything but it really omits nothing from the formula.
I also love the iPhones as well. I can appreciate how great their processors are and how efficient it is. I can appreciate how great the camera software on the iPhones is as well. I'm just not a fan of their OS and how it works. Honestly I've thought about switching in the future but with how locked down things are on iOS it might not be possible for me.
I'm happy you have a phone you love and get a good experience with and I hope you can also appreciate that I have a phone I currently love and have a good experience with. Why can't we just compliment eachother instead of bashing eachother?

Disappointed after buying S22 ultra. The notification sound and ring tones are very low compared to note 20 ultra. Think twice before buying this phone.

The S22U has an power hungry SOC, hindering its other components. Your suggestion of closing background apps is irrelevant, because the current OS can suspend inactive apps in memory. Killing them, would need even more battery because the OS need to reload them in memory. But I do kill them if not used at all.
In addition, you say that you've used your phone for 3 for days without charging starting at 85%? I would love to see your screen-on time details for those 3 days. You can talk, but please, make sense as well.
Android has gone downhill since its golden days of version 2-4. Custom ROMs and APKs. Good times, but they ended. Samsung depends on Google to provide Android, and Qualcomm to provide its SOC. This is not streamlined process, each step is a loss in optimization. Though, Samsung was right to implement GOS, without it, the phone would overheat, and degrade the battery further. Android has now become a competitive platform where companies can release the fastest, cutting edge devices, without caring for the technology itself, quality and refinement.
*Sigh* People live in a world where ignorance is truly bliss...Meanwhile, I turn to more "fruity" devices...

justme, 27 Apr 2022I don't know what you are doing wrong but the battery ... moreMy S22U has great battery life too. I go about 2-3 days without charging with the 85% limiter on. I think a lot of ppl just leave all their apps running in the background killing their battery life since they are constantly updating and syncing information for the apps. A few years ago everyone was complaining about how phones were closing background apps constantly to save battery life and now everyone is complaining that battery life is bad when they leave apps running in the background.
Which one do you guys want huh? You can't have both. That is like wanting a car with 600+ horsepower gas engine but to also get 50+ mpg...

justme, 27 Apr 2022I don't know what you are doing wrong but the battery ... moreI also came from the Huawei P20 Pro and I can tell you, that phone has better endurance than this one, with heavy usage. Li-Po batteries ain't that bad actually. If you say 4 to 6 hours of screen on time is "excellent", there is something definitely wrong with that statement (your usage of adjectives perhaps). At this price-point? I expect 9-10 hours SOT at most with medium usage, considering battery capacity.
Of course I can make it through almost 2 days with the S22U, if all I do is view notification messages, but that is not a realistic use case. On average, I watch HD videos, scroll through IG, play match-3 games and all that gets me is about 6hrs. That is quite mediocre. Play games like Genshin Impact and you'll be lucky to get 5 hrs that slice through the battery like butter. I will not be biased just because I own the product. So much punch, but no power. Common Samsung....

Kris17, 26 Apr 2022I get that. However, you are not getting my point. Yes, the... moreI don't know what you are doing wrong but the battery on the S22 Ultra is great. I would not need to charge some days except I do it by habit. I have my battery set to charge only to 85% as I want it to last the full 4 years of OS upgrades/5 years of security updates. Yes I am on a laptop for most of the day but the phone always has 4 to 6 hours of screen on time daily and I never finish the day with less than 25-30%. All round really really good device. I didn't think I would find a replacement for my Huawei Mate20 Pro but this is it and I like the S22 Ultra more as time goes by and I have learned the ins and outs of the mfr settings.
I highly recommend this phone, just don't consider the 8GB model.
