notafanboy, 13 Jan 2022Nice fear mongering. It's the truth. At least for the phones launched in China.

It was even reported here on GSMArena:

It's an aspect ratio that only a Sony fanboy could love.

Finally a new Note... The only thing i missed from Samsung.

Screen ratio is most likely going to be 19,3:9, not 20:9. The screen would be too narrow if they maintained 20:9 ratio for 6,81 inches.

Darknoor, 10 Jan 2022Suddenly MIUI isn't so trashyIf you've been keeping tabs on Chinese tech news, you would never buy another Xiaomi phone again. There's a new 'feature' in MIUI 13... something related to 'security' and the Chinese government. Rather than spoil it for you, I'll let you find out about the details.

If you are a diehard headphone jack cultist, go but a (overpriced) Sony phone, or a cheap Chinese Android phone. They will have your beloved hole.

The good practical thing the S22 Ultra has over the non-Ultra S22 is that the phone's back seems to be frosted glass, which will not be a fingerprint magnet like the glossy glass found on the non-Ultra S22 phones.

I'm not a Note fan so the inclusion of the pen doesn't do anything for me at all as I'll never use it. Like yourself I'll be very interested in the S23 as I don't think they will do much with the S22....I may be wrong.

r0adk1ll, 08 Jan 2022Oh yeah, forgot to add, been using S21 Ultra 5G since launc... moreFunnily enough my S21 Ultra 512gb just died on me and no matter what I tried I couldn't get it to the boot up screen...long story short...Samsung fixed it in 15 minutes and it was a catastrophic software failure which i was told was extremely rare. Had to reset my phone and lost everything on it....or so I thought but remember I had Amazon photos as part of my Prime subscription and low and behold didn't lose a thing! Moral of the story is, as much as I miss the SD option, it's not the end of the world but would opt for it again if it was available.

r0adk1ll, 08 Jan 2022typical to have incremental upgrade over the previous S21 U... moreOh yeah, forgot to add, been using S21 Ultra 5G since launch and at first i was worried about it not having a microSD card, but after a year of frequent use, there's still about 350GB of free space on it and I sync it on both Google Drive and One Drive so this phone dying on me is a non-issue. Haven't experienced any slowdowns or hangs. I am confident this will last until I replace it next year with the S23 Ultra 5G 512GB or 1TB (if available)

typical to have incremental upgrade over the previous S21 Ultra 5G, which is why I skip a generation before upgrading.

                                      can't wait for next year's S23 Ultra 5G 512GB! :)

When my cared-for S6 spontaneously died and there was no way of recovering anything from the built-in storage, an SD card slot became and essential for me. No, I can't store the world in cloud storage and download when I want it: 5G is often throttled so it takes time as well as good coverage in the area.

And with all the money Samsung wants us to pay, they also want us to buy bluetooth headphones (another device to keep charged) rather than have a 3.5mm socket. That is greedy. Alternatively, they want us to use the single USB-C socket for music and charging, more than doubling the wear on that tiny component - and yes, Samsung phone sockets do break, which is why I'm currently looking for a new phone and, hopefully, more than the 52s.
