Samsung Galaxy S23+ camera system includes three main lenses:
Ultra-Wide (0.6x)
Wide/Main (1x)
Telephoto (3x optical zoom)
How to Access the Telephoto Lens (3x Zoom) on the S23+
Open the Camera app.
In the standard Photo mode, you will see zoom options (usually labeled 0.6, 1x, and 3 or 3x) above the shutter button.
Tap the 3 or 3x button to instantly switch to the dedicated telephoto.
When I hit the 3X button the Camera system shifts to Telephoto Lens and remains so for 5-6 seconds and then reverts back, automatically to wide / Main Lens which is situated in the middle.
This has been observed by me by placing my finger on bottom (Telephoto Lens ). This has been observed by me repeatedly. Once at 3x it should remain on telephoto lens till 10x , this resulting in a zoom (a mixture of ( Telephoto upto 3X + Digital beyond 3x to 10X )
known as Space-Zoom in the world of Optics . I have studied for some years and used SLR's and DSLR's quite a bit.
I think there is a Software Glich which needs to be rectified through SOFTWARE Update to stop this automatically swiching back after 5-6 seconds to main camera and forcing to take shot solely as Digital Zoom.

In Samsung Galaxy S23+ rear Cameras a problem has been noticed.. Rear side from top to bottom.
Top Lens is for ultra-wide.
1.
-Open Camera and Set the zoom to 0.6 , i.e Ultra Wide
-Place your finger on the top rear lens.
-The display shall go dark/black, meaning it is
Ultra-Wide Lens/Camera.
2.
-Open camera and set the Zoom to 1 .
- Place your finger on the rear MIDDLE Lens.
- The Display shall go dark / black, meaning it is
a Wide angle Lens /Camera.
3.
- Open Camera and set Zoom to 2 or 3.
- Place your finger on Rear Bottom lens to cover it.
- The display does NOT go dark /black.
This signifies that this bottom lens, which is supposed to be TELEPHOTO Lens is not in operation. As nothing happens by COVERING the bottom Lens.. Whether there is no sensor. at bottom.
While the zoom set at 2 or 3 ... I moved my finger to middle Lens/ sensor. Covered it fully.
- Surprisingly, the Display got Blocked.
- This gives inference that all the light was refracting through middle Lens.
Whether the bottom bottom rear lens is a dud or dummy.
Only two Lenses are refracting that is top most and the middle one.
Will Samsung check this anomaly in S23+.
I request other owners of S23+ to check this aspect in their phones.
If ZOOM EFFECT is coming solely from Rear MIDDLE Lens then IT IS NOT OPTICAL ZOOM ..
Then, It is just Cropping or software enlargement.
I welcome any corrections, anybody advise me.

SouravHusain, 17 Oct 2025I sold the S23 and bought the S23+ because of the weak, sma... moreUpgraded from the S22 Ultra cause of poor battery, was in a dilemme whether to get this or the S24+ (exynos) finally got a good deal on S24+ (buds, case & glass) was a bit hesitant at first cause of exynos but I was wrong! Got one UI 8 with October security patch while setting it up without charging the phone, after charging and using it for a longer hours got screen on time of 8 hours with 20% battery still left. Overall happy with the purchase & don't have to worry about changing it anytime soon cause of long software updates.

I sold the S23 and bought the S23+ because of the weak, small battery on the S23, but the bitter truth is that I still feel the battery shortage.
